Saw this on Fox News this morning! http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/08/26/house-dems-seek-to-tax-gun-owners-with-new-bill/
What he said.
“It’s nothing more than confiscatory taxation.
“I doubt this bill will pass, but we will lobby against it if need be,” he added. “This is simply another shot against gun owners in this country.”

Looks like that is part of the bill.

The anti's are never going to stop, -ever. It's an incremental chipping away until there's nothing left. I really don't think it has the least bit to do with crime reduction, just simply more taxes/money for their pet projects. If we were all into collecting sea shells, there'd be a huge tax and transfer fee on sea shells. Gun owners are merely a revenue stream in the eyes of politicians: Bloomberg gives to the anti-2A politicians, NRA gives to the pro-2A politicians and we are pawns in the game.
I hope the mid-term elections go our way because of the attempted gun grab so we can get a reprieve from this.

The shift in demographics has been too substantial for that. Sadly.

It seems that this is not entirely true when you consider the recalls and the talk of secession (though futile).

If you went back in time to 1995 and told people that the AWB would not be renewed in 2004 you'd have been laughed off most of the gun forums and told to pull your head out of your ass.

Agree. Despite the biggest push for new gun control since 1994, the recent history of gun control forces has been one abysmal failure after another.
Look at it this way: not a single one of the proposed federal gun control laws passed. No AWB, no magazine ban, no UBCs, no ammo registration, nothing.
The biggest victory they had were to push a number of minor executive orders that didn't do much. The biggest impact from that was that research can now be funded, and the flood of data released in the wake of that EO has almost uniformly vindicated the pro-gun side of things and made the Obama administration look all manner of stupid.
Additionally, all fifty states now have some form of legalized concealed carry, a half dozen others have gone to constitutional carry, there are record numbers of new gun owners, shooters, and people seeking out training and joining the NRA.
The AR15 has gone almost completely mainstream, and gun ownership is now so mundane that there are a half dozen reality shows based around it.
The biggest state-level wins for the anti gunners have been the passage of further laws in traditionally democrat party strongholds on the east coast and in California.
The one true downside for gun owners has been here in Colorado, and the underhanded shenanigans by the democrats has so incensed the populace that the first recalls in state history are underway, as is a campaign to royal the magazine ban via ballot initiative. The fallout from this is such that the democratic party may very well lose their stranglehold on the Colorado legislature and governorship (assuming the Colorado Republican party extracts their head from their own ass long enough to win over some voters. )
Given the stridency and power of the tea party faction in the house, I don't have much worry that this tax proposal will become law,or even make it out of committee.
Are things perfect? No. But gun owners have much more political power now than at any time in history.

I'm not holding my breath for much progress in the next election cycle. The Republican party has gone full retard.

Major loophole in tax law?! What the hell is that guy talking about?
Too bad there isn't a way to gather the names and addresses of all the anti-gun people in the country, and then distribute that info to all the criminals in the country.....

Associated PressWASHINGTON (AP) - Vice President Joe Biden says if Congress won't act on gun control, he'll fight for a new Congress.
Biden is unveiling two new steps President Barack Obama is taking on gun violence. The executive actions don't require approval from Congress, where gun legislation collapsed earlier this year.
One new step will curb the import of military surplus weapons. The Obama administration is also proposing to close a loophole that lets certain weapons be registered to corporations without background checks.
Biden says the steps are straightforward, simple and common-sense. He says Obama will act on his own where he can, but will also keep pushing for broader gun control legislation.
Biden spoke at the ceremonial swearing-in for Todd Jones, the new head of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

I do believe we may see a trend of people ignoring NFA laws and simply doing what they please.
