I did a test yesterday to see what range to zero my 12.5 inch suppressed 300 Black Out. I was shooting 208 grain Hornady 308 bullets over 9.0 grains of H110 for a velocity of 1000 FPS. I spread three red dots across the middle of the white side of a IPSC target. I zeroed the 300 BO at 25 yards and shot 3 rounds at the red dot on the left side of the target. Moved the target to 50 yards and shot another 3 rounds. Moved it to 100 yards and shot another three rounds. Each time i used the red dot on the left side of the target for the aiming point.
Next I zeroed the 300 for 100 yards and shot 3 rounds at the middle red dot. Brought the target to 50 yards and shot another 3 rounds and repeated again at 25 yards using the same red dot for an aiming point at at all three distances. I repeated this again doing a 50 yard zero on the right red dot. Now I have to decide what range do I want to zero the 300 zeroed. Or do I want to take it out and try 65 and 75 yards. After doing this test I kind of like the 50 yard zero. Any other thoughts on this?

It depends on how far you want to hit with it. If everything is inside 50 yards, then a 50 yard zero should work fine. I am of course assuming this is for a AR-15 based with the mechanical offset and such. Once you come inside of 50 yards, you really have to play with mechanical offset at almost all distances except your actual zero for precision hits. You can try 100 yard zero and then run your over/unders from 0 to 150 yards for every ten yards and see if that is something that works for you, or do you even care that much.

You are right in assuming I was shooting an AR based 300 BO. I just attached a picture of the gun with the Leupold 4.5-14 scope and Surefire 762SS suppressor. I was looking for that optimum zero for this cartridge. A zero range that would let me hold center and the bullet would be within 2 inches one way or another. Something like zeroing the AR15 556 for 200 yards. After running the ballistics on several different programs I'm thinking 65 yards would be that range.

I'm running my 300BLK 220SMK subs 1-2" high at 50yd... I'm thinking 150yd will be the max range for my 8" SBR suppressed...
