Guy with a knife and bar picked a fight with me and ended bad for him. I cant carry at work so it was hands on. Guy was angry so got in my face and I pushed him off me, thats when I noticed the knife so I grabbed him before he could swing. The next few minutes were knda blurry. I just kept his hands away from the blade and pipe. Blood is everywhere and I cant tell where its coming from. Im just a lil scraped up but he is on his way to the hospital then to jail. He has a felony warrant and is a unregistered sex offender. Im glad he choose me and not some innocent lady or older person on the street.

Im trying to change their mind. The police were more than happy to take him. Concrete and face dont mix to well. Ofcourse there was a drunk guy out there yelling I used to much force. The cop told him when a weapon is involved my force was just enough.

Geez Dave.. I am glad you are good to go. Working in downtown really suck, especially in your field. Stay safe man.

Way to go man, sounds like it ended alright and I hope the blood was entirely his. If not, as others have said, heal up quickly!

I have a question for you though, and feel free to decline to answer if you prefer. Based on what you've just had to deal with, would you have handled it differently if you had your gun with you? Do you think the end result was the same as it would have been, had you had it (bad guy goes to jail)?

Glad you're ok man. As much as I'd be interested as well, I would recommend not answering this or going into too much detail about the event on a public forum until this is all settled and over.

Glad your OK Dave, and in a sense I am glad you were not carrying! I only say this because you came out ok, otherwise I would have been wishing you were! You saved yourself some drama by not having to go through a shoot. Try to look to the good side of things brother!

Now in hind site; do you wish you had been carrying?

Good man! This is one of the reasons, I train in other areas; jiu-jitsu, boxing, different scenario's. Sometime you can't always go for the gun, and it should be the last resort anyway......

Agreed. If there's any kind of ongoing investigation, then please do not answer. I'm just hoping for real firsthand experience that might help enlighten folks about how having a firearm may have resolved this differently, be it that the perp just sat down and shut up until the cops arrived, etc. Obviously, if it was not necessary to use, you still would not have used it, but I can't help but wonder if you would have been able to avoid any of the injuries inflicted.

I didn't read all the newest posts before my last reply, so I'm sorry for the redundancy. Thank you for this insight. I have often considered not using mine when brainstorming similar scenarios as to yours and continue to train with pain compliance and joint manipulation, ie. mostly non-striking contact. I just hope I am able to control the situation quickly and peaceably.

Hate to be the one to say it ........ But I've been there ( years of bouncing in clubs)

if he bled everywhere and your scraped up ....

And since I'm going to assume he was homeless and a potential carrier...

Are/ have you considered the after exposure treatment for AIDS/HIV ?

BUt good job controlling and winning the situation ... bringing my hands to a knife fight scares the shit out of me .

If the job continues to disallow CCW carry STRONGLY consider carrying a good strong Mace/Pepper Spray ( I HIGHLY suggest Fox 5.3.. stuff drops just about everyone and has saved my butt more then once in some nasty situations... also grab the decon wipes from them too .. will help you recover from it if you get over spray or what not)

Dude, you and I communicated a awhile ago about our jobs..... I expect that shit everyday and I am about ready to say fuck that and fuck the system in place in Denverfornia.. Mr. Reagan did nothing for anybody by closing down most mental facilities... I should start another threat here... The programs in Denver( I cannot speak for other places)give convicts a better chance to get housing than returning veterans and older veterans from past "police actions"... Convicts need to stay in the joint.....

The cop told him when a weapon is involved my force was just enough.
Good for him for setting the bystander straight on the facts. More of this would go a long way in the general populace not freaking out about the use of force when it's one of their own. For years they try to brainwash people into thinking that the use of force against threats is unjust and then wonder why these same people scream 'Police brutality!' when they use force to subdue a threat... go figure.
