Probably worthy of another sticky.

Honestly not surprised seeing a lot of these surfacing. With the recent surge in gun sales some manufacturers seem to be slacking on quality assurance in order to pump out more volume.

I wonder if someone else can sign for your returned package or if they need a background check first!

hey guys, I'm confused. The instructions for this are to take to a FedEx office and ship out. i thought we had to use a FFL to ship a firearm. ??? Yeah my new toy is on the list.

Not necessary to ship between the owner and the manufacturer. The manufacturer can also replace the firearm and return it directly to you without going through an FFL.

They can repair & return to you. I think a replacement requires an FFL. New serial #.

I sent a pistol to glock, you have to send it next day, and tell the person at the counter it is a firearm. At least that's what I had to do.

I had a pistol replaced by ParaOrdnance. Came directly to me. Para did the change through their books.

I've sent a few S&Ws in for work. They would send me the return tag. Pistol in the blue box and goes right into the FedEx box with the label. There's no disclosure of what is inside the box and it's insured by S&W. The label doesn't say "Smith & Wesson" or "Steal Me".

you are correct, same serial number can be shipped back to owner, replacement (new serial number) requires FFL.

Not my rules. [rules]

Question since I have never had to. Do you suggest sending it back in the hard case it comes in? Thanks.

Even better, I made it a global announcement for the next 2 weeks.

Thanks for notifying us of this so we can spread the word.

First contact Springfield to coordinate the return. They will probably tell you to send the gun ONLY with no mags or manuals. I would also have them arrange for a fedex or UPS pickup. if you send it, it will have to go overnight and that will probably cost you about $50.00, the larger the package the more the cost. Also, only an FFL can send a handgun through the US Mail.

Often I receive firearms that have been only wrapped in bubble wrap and they are not damaged

So apparently from what I am now hearing the "fix" SA thought they had is not working and at this time they have no solution. [Mad] No ETA on when they might have a fix or when we might get our guns back. I just picked up a XDs 9 that I still need to send in as well. Not looking good. Shame on SA for not fully testing there fix before issuing a recall. I'm sure it was a cover their ass move at this point.

Was talking with a co-worker that has an XDs back at Springfield. He's been told the current wait is 16 weeks.

Ridiculous. I'm sure that will slip out seeing as they don't even have a fix yet. This is not going to end well for SA. Lot's of pissed off customers right now

I was told 30 days from the day the received it. Until I hear something from them directly I'm not going to worry too much. It wouldn't make sense for them to not have a fix. I think 30 days for me will be the 3rd so we shall see.

As mentioned, contact S.A. First, they will give an RMA and printable shipping label. This way it costs you nothing for the return to factory and S.A. Will return it to you on their dime. It will come adult signature Required.

XD-S™ Recall FAQ
Updated Sept. 27, 2013This information applies only to XD-S™ pistols in the serial number ranges below

Springfield 3.3 XD-S™ 9mm pistols - serial numbers between XS900000 and XS938700
Springfield 3.3 XD-S™ .45ACP pistols - serial numbers between XS500000 and XS686300

This Springfield XD-S™ Recall FAQ will be updated every Friday through the recall process. Please check back for updates.

We understand that our voluntary safety recall has made it inconvenient for you to be without your pistol, and we sincerely apologize for that. We also understand your frustration with our lack of follow-up communication to this point and we are committing to you now that we will provide regular updates going forward.

We originally estimated a 30-day turn-around time, but it has unfortunately taken longer to develop and identify an upgrade solution. Please know that we are continuing to test potential upgrade solutions at this time and we have been doing so since we became aware of this issue. This testing is nearing completion and we will post any new updates as soon as we have identified a final upgrade solution. We will post our next update no later than Friday, October 4, and we will communicate immediately if a final solution is identified prior to that date. We wish that we could provide you with a specific return date at this time, but we are unfortunately unable to do so. Upgrades will be completed on a "first come / first served" basis.
Why it's taking so long:

We pledge to you that we are working as fast as we can, and have greatly increased our staff and number of shifts to ensure that we are leveraging every hour in the day.

We understand that our decision to announce a voluntary safety recall without a final solution in place has caused confusion and frustration. We sincerely apologize for that inconvenience. However, your safety is, and always has been, our paramount concern. And that is why we decided to issue the voluntary safety recall before we had a guaranteed upgrade solution in place.

Our decision not to wait was based on putting you, our customer, first. Some companies build in several weeks of lead time before announcing their recalls. But, we didn't feel that was the most responsible approach in this case since our priority is your safety.

Please know that we are committed to resolving this matter as quickly as possible and we are committed to ensuring that you will be very pleased with your upgraded 3.3 XD-S™. As a reminder, do not use your 3.3 XD-S™ until the upgrade has been performed.

This is what happens when you buy a licensed Croatian gun that the agencies it was designed for didn't even want. The XD/HS2000 is a marketing campaign.

Just to be clear the recall is not for the XD/HS2000 or XDm line. Only the new XDs. I have several XD/XDm models that have been flawless and great shooters. However this will make me question future SA purchases.

Sent mine back in August. Sad to hear they dont even have a solution. It wont sway me on buying future Springfield products, heck there have been several recalls lately. My FNX 45 was recalled and back to me in 2 weeks with a free mag. Have sent back two Sigs for out of the box issues this last month. Sad these things happen and its no fun having pieces of our collections at local gunsmiths or across the country.

What was the FNX45 recall? I have one but have not heard of any recall?

It was pretty limited. Mine went back was inspected and sent back. Fn tracked me through the dealer I bought it from. http://fnforum.net/forums/fn-fnx/47863-fnx-45-recall.html

If it was a defect that could cause an AD, then they were probably strongly encouraged by their liability carrier to start the recall as soon as possible.

Yeah but 1) that's not a mystery as to if you need to do it or not (simple test procedure) and 2) they've already corrected it on models after 8/19 and are repairing those that are affected and sending them back. That's a LOT more than I can say for Springfield Armory.

Speaking of buying a XDs. This guy is trying to dump his claiming it is Not part of the recall. Of course it is part of it. I really hate when people are dishonest.

Pretty sure the pin is just a way to tell which ones have been modified or not. Has nothing to do with the actual fix.

Yeah, and the pinky sleeve. In all I guess I'm not as cheesed as I was a couple of weeks ago when we had no end in sight. It really didn't that THAT much longer than they had originally estimated so I'm sure this wound shall heal in time too. Free shit helps. ;-)

That sounds better than the $100 rebate on next springfield product of at least $500 that I am getting.

Sent mine back Aug 30. It was brand new and unfired. Hope they did not ding it up etc. All ready have 7 mags and would have appreciated a 100 off card on a new product. Have my eye on a new Springfield 1911. Either way I have bought and owned guns for 20 years now seems I have been returning alot more of my new purchases for recalls and broken things. Have 5 different Sig pistols go back this year for example. Seems like my collection always has a firearm back at the manufacture these days.It almost like we are now the testers.

He has a coupon he doesn't need & wants a magazine. You have a preponderance of magazines w/another one on the way & a need for a Springfield firearm that could utilize a discount. Seems you two have something to discuss privately. -Cupid :-)
