Does any ar-15 striped lower work for a pistol build or do I need a pistol specific lower?

If it was me I'd buy brand new or be able to prove it's never had a stock on it. JMO

bushy carbon lower. as light as possible.

by the time you get done investment wise. you could have received your NFA approval back for your SBR! 1 lower may possibilities
