View Full Version : Anyone with a S&W Catalog help identify revolver?
I recently acquired this 32 S&W long revolver. I bought it from a relative who told me it was a 38 special. I had it shipped in and didn't realize it was a different caliber until I saw it. It's in great condition and I doubt it's been fired much. I don't know much about this caliber and am wondering if anyone could tell me more about it? Does the 30-1 in the last picture mean the model? The serial starts H685XX I appreciate any help.

Are you thinking it is a .32?
I think so. Sorry the picture is blurrier than I thought it was going to be. It says 32 S&W Long on the side of the barrel.
It's a model 30-1. Are you looking for year of manufacture? I should have that based on your SN. Just have to look it up in my book.
30-1 is the model. Google S&W 30-1. Nice looking revolver.

I would appreciate that when time permits, Sroz.
According to my Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson 3rd Ed.
H Serial Prefix
1972 - 1976 H60001 - H99999. So yours would have been either 1972 or 1973. .32 S&W Long. Production ended in 1976. The -1 is when they went from the I-Frame to the J-Frame.
Blue or nickel finish. For what it's worth, they list the value in Excellent condition at $275. I would think it's worth more. Very nice looking revolver.
Excellent info. Thanks, Sroz and others for the knowledge. Much appreciated.
She's a pretty one. If it were mine I'd check into seeing if it could be rechambered for 327 magnum. That would make a nice little shooter for sure.

+1. Ray is offering up some good advise. Would be worth looking into. Just not sure if it could handle the magnum round. Bert could probably tell you.
Then you will want better sights and some other dam thing. Sell it if it won't fit your needs. I'd trade it to a collector.

+1 on that. Its a beautiful nickel gun and as stated earlier, in the market it would bring more than the stated price from the Supica/Nauahus catalog. If you bore it out to .327 or otherwise modify it, you no longer have a pristine mod 30-1 and it will definitely bring less than stated. If you want something else, the S&W community of collectors/shooters will buy it.
I do appreciate all the input. For what it's worth, it belonged to my uncle who passed away last May. For sentimental reasons I'll just hold onto it and pass it on if I ever get hitched and have kids someday.

Perfect!
