..the Fruits and Nuts in California are doing their damnest to out retard New York:
http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2013/08/robert-farago/breaking-california-gun-ban-bills-pass-committee/

Yup, it appears any semi automatic rifle that is magazine fed is now classified as an "Illegal Assault Weapon" and banned.
While this is just the first committee vote you KNOW the fluffers in CA will pass it just like they did here.
In reading over on Calguns it appears the CA legislature took a page from our legislative session and representatives are not listening, not reading emails etc.

Keep your powder dry kids.......

Sometimes we even lead the way for California. As far as I know they still haven't legalized marijuana for recreational use and don't recognize same sex marriage.

Not at all surprised.
Next muzzle loaders and pneumatic guns will be on the list.
Seems like when anti gun measures fail in other states , not only does Kali pick up on then they expand on them and go that exta inch..

How about this little gem:

SB-755 Firearms: prohibited persons (http://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billNavClient.xhtml?bill_id=201320140SB755) – PASSED - “This bill would add to the list of misdemeanors, the conviction for which is subject to those prohibitions, misdemeanor offenses of violating the above provisions as well as threatening a peace officer, removing a weapon from the person of a peace officer, hazing, transferring a firearm without completing the transaction through a licensed firearms dealer, furnishing ammunition to a minor, possession of ammunition by a person prohibited from having a firearm, furnishing ammunition to a person prohibited from possessing ammunition, carrying ammunition onto school grounds, carrying a loaded or concealed weapon if the person has been previously convicted of a crime against a person or property, or of a narcotics or dangerous drug violation, or if the firearm is not registered, participation in any criminal street gang, and a public offense committed for the benefit of a criminal street gang.

So conviction of ANY crime prevents you from owning or carrying a gun

Before you know it they'll pass enough bills to make anybody and everybody criminals in one form or another.

that stage was passed long ago.

so CA now has:
banned all semi auto long guns
instituted a license to own/posses/borrow a gun (training cert)
greatly expanded the prohibited person list
license to sell ammunition and record keeping (how did I forget this one!)

on top of all the other crap they already had.

What was with the redefinition of shotgun? what got banned/regulated there?

Welcome to the future, aint it grand. :)

Funny, even before this I had never even entertained the thought of moving to CA but as the exodus from there to CO continues, I would not be surprised if CO became just another carbon copy.

No, carrying a concealed weapon (got a pocket knife?) after conviction of any crime gets you on The List.

Like others have said, the state is well on its way to doing just that.

I used to disregard the comment "As goes California, so goes the Nation" but after what happened here in CO, I find any new legislation in CA worrisome: far too many politicians in CO lean that direction and would adopt CA laws in a heartbeat if they could. It's FAR from over in CO.

As I read the proposed law, any long gun with a detachable magazine or ammunition feeding device is now considered a "assault weapon" and is now banned. That means my brother's Browning BLR will be illegal.

So get caught with a .22lr round floating around in your truck ( who doesn't have one or two of those buggers floating around?) BLAM... no more guns for you in California.

Are you freaking serious ?

It limits it to semiautos so a BLR would be fine but a BAR would be banned.

Naw, the system is broken. There is no guarantee that the courts will make the correct decision. There has been a plan for awhile now... smart growth and sustainable living can't be fully implemented as long as people are armed and capable of defending their property.
