Want to give a shout out to Colorado Gun Writes.

Did a great job on laser engraving my SBR lower. Met after work on afternoon and was done in about thirty minutes. Will be back for the UZI and Krink.

Cool, didn't know we had any engravers here. Had my last lower shipped to Orion Arms for engraving. Would have gone local had I known!

Not to be "that guy" but does laser engraving meet the depth requirements from the BATFE?

Yes it does.

He does far more than the legal requirements. So if you ever re-finish the lower (depth will change due to filling with guncoat / duaracoat etc.) you are still in compliance.
He is right near 5280 armory! So if you are down this way you can make a couple of stops

IF you need to do other things while your NFA items are being engraved, make sure you bring a copy of the Appointment of Co-Trustee & Resignation of Co-Trustee. If not you'll need to remain on premises while work is being done.

They do a very nice job on polymer lowers too.

I've seen Jim's polymer lower and it came out very clean. I will be using him when I get my stamp back in September..[Rant1]

Taken out of context, this could be very disturbing...

Just had him do 3 NFA laser engravings for me, all I can say is WOW, what a great guy and the work is absolutely top notch, I wish that all of my NFA items were done by them, now all of my "mechanically" done ones just look like crap!

I spoke to Troy last night and he said I could drop off my lower any time. Will I need some kind of paperwork to do that or is that for NFA items only?

NFA items

Forgive me if I'm wrong but seeings that I'm new to Colorado and the law here I thought I understood it that if possession was exchanged of the serialized firearm then paperwork had to be completed. Then again to exchange it back. I was thinking about getting some engraving done but didn't want to because that was how I understood it.

72 hrs . IIRC he is getting, or has his FFL. You don't need paperwork / BG check for gunsmithing services.

Troy installed a suck meter on one of my lowers this morning. I had him calibrate it to civilian suck but it immediately pegged anyway.

Seriously though, take advantage of his talent, equipment, and generosity before he comes to his senses.

Can't you get your lower engraved now and then it'll be ready to go when you get your stamp?

This is a positive review of Colorado Gun Writes. I contacted them by email last week, spoke on the phone, and arranged a time to do the work to engrave the trust name on my ar-15 lower.

It was reasonably priced, and the work was done while I waited. It's not "engraved" mechanically, but done with a laser, so the lines are precise, text is accurate, and looks awesome.

Plus they are friendly and seem to really know what they are doing.

Highly recommend them.

Here's a photo of their work on my lower (trust name redacted for security)

I had a positive experience with him as well. He can burn just about anything. From plastics to extremely hard steel.http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/09/09/7d81b5fe42aeef6b2a94435e725aa6b6.jpg
