View Full Version : Dillon RT1200 trim length consistency
Well after a lengthy wait for my trim dies they finally showed up, but after some use with the setup I've notice a pretty wide spread of about +/-.005 in trim length. No sure if this is a issue or is acceptable for this trimmer, but what kind of consistency are you guys seeing with your dillon trimmer setups.
I'm processing brass on a Dillon 650 with the toolhead setup:
1. Lee universal decapper
3. 1200 & trim die (case gauges fine)
5. Redding FL die (backed off and only expanding the neck)

.005 is not a lot of variation . 1.750 set gave me 1.752 - 1.748 on the 650,depending on head stamp. It's like OAL no matter how dead nuts u are the fluctuation of bullet oal, can throw it off.
One thing I noticed with switching to a 1050 for processing is less, OAL fluctuation. I still have 002/3 . The 650 was all over the place, until i added a hornady loc ring on the underside of the tool head. Damn thing never wanted to stay locked down.

If your reloader/bench isnt solid as a rock/bolted to the center of the earth, you might get .005 vari.
I use a light dusting of Hornady One Shot and it seems to help.
I usualy only have .002 max vari on my 1050.
Is your trimmer new? If you bought it used, the bearings might be shot.
Thanks for the replies. Everything is brand new and the press and bench feel solid enough. ill try a few things you guys mentioned and see if it lowers my trim variation..

I have set up my trimmer on a uniquetek toolhead and found that it is now VERY consistent.
