I've only lived here for nine years but I don't ever recall this much rain in 72 hours. I have received reverse-911 calls four times this evening and various emergency vehicles are at several intersections less than three blocks away due to flooding. I'm high enough up a hill that it's not an issue but I won't need to be running my irrigation system for the lawn for the next few days! -my lawn may be knee-high by the weekend...

Having been here my whole life, I can tell you that it used to be common to have afternoon rain showers consistently throughout summer. This completely dry and hot climate during summer was not the norm.

A week of heavy rain straight has happened before, but not frequently.

Irving
09-11-2013, 23:56
Yeah, I would say about 10-12ish years ago the afternoon shower was the norm. Nothing on a scale like this though.

Milliken, backyard lawn in low quadrant under 4-5 inches of water. Damn window well had water a few inches up the glass. Toads swimming around. Bailed water and toads and that worked so I only ended up with a gallon or 3 on the floor. Water started to recede by bedtime at 5pm. Little worried what I'll come home from work to.

I don't think it will get enough water to where it drains into the sump. Also on the list of things I'm finding wrong with the house. The plastic cover to the sump has basically been sealed in by crappy concrete work. (I could chip away.)

Thank god the side with my main tanks/carpet/future entertainment center is on the high end. Will have to look into something to maybe raise the nice stuff an inch off the ground.

Wow, looks like storms faded/broke up about 15 miles west of us. Which is good, we are already more than saturated.

About 20 miles west I had to cross a couple flooded areas almost 2' deep on highway and saw some pretty serious crop damage and destroyed fields.

If the rain doesn't stop pretty soon some of the local farmers are going to take big hits on crop losses.

It is raining pretty good at 122nd and Huron. Leave it to Time Warner...they failed to put a lid back on their pipe running into our CPU/switch room from the street in the vault (area under the manhole cover). The hole filled up with water and the water ran through the pipe (conduit with Fiber run) going into our CPU/switch room and started to flood our room. 3 buckets, a shopvac, and 2 hours later we finally got the water below the pipe opening. Now we have folks out running around looking for pumps and Lowe's, Home Depot, and others are all sold out. Hopefully Walfart has one as we are running out of options.

Fun times indeed.

Yup. Thanks for asking.
Coal "Creek" is now Coal RIVER.
The highway is gone in places, they said not to expect to be able to travel Hwy 72 for at least a month.
They turned off the natural gas line. Some do not have electricity. Thankfully we still do.....for now.
We lost one bridge, hope the other holds up, or we will not be able to get out of the yard when they open the road.
At least a foot of standing water in the basement. Going to take the sump pump(s) a LONG time to empty that out.
Have not accessed the rest of the damages yet. And it is STILL RAINING. This isn't over yet.

In the 50+ years I've been here I don't recall ever seeing this much rain over this length of time. We get a lot of the all day soakers but two to three days of significant rains are not normal. I just dumped another 5" out of my rain gauge, I dumped 1-3/4" yesterday, that's almost 7" in 48 hours. And I live in Saudi Aurora as in dry desert.

27J just sent out a notification district wide that all after school activities have been cancelled.

For any parents that have kiddos in 27J,, here is what they sent in case you didn't get it:

Good afternoon 27J parents,
This is a district-wide message from School District 27J. First, we want you to know your students are safe and learning. We have chosen to cancel all after-school activities for today, Sept. 12. This includes athletic events and practices as well as parent teacher conferences. Afternoon kindergarten and pre-school will remain on normal schedules. After-school care programs will also maintain normal hours. If road closures impact bus transportation routes this afternoon and delay student drop-off, the 27J transportation department will communicate directly with families of impacted riders. We will continue to monitor any new developments. The safety of your student remains our first priority.
Thank you,
School District 27J

Bear Creek above Evergreen usually averages a discharge rate of 30 to 40 cubic feet per second. As of 1800MDT it was near 400 CFS. I've never seen water flowing over the damn like I did earlier today.

I was evacuated from my shop at about 2pm. Took them a few times to tell me. Shop will probably in water by midnight if it keeps going.

Wow lots of water down the mtn.
Ya'll be safe.

So actually how Big is a Cubic? Blueprints call for cubics...

Listen to the album again, its a "Cubit", not a "Cubic"

From Wiki: "The cubit is an archaic unit of length based on the length of the forearm from the elbow to the tip of the middle finger."

My mother-in-law just called in a full blown panic. She was speaking so much Spanish I had to get my wife out of the shower because I couldn't understand her. They are getting evacuated and are coming to our house. They live less than a mile away as the crow flies.

Yeah Crave is good but I always feel like they are trying to give me a heart attack, Freddies is more like a heart arrhythmia.....

Anyway Freddies was good, Dave has a lovely wife and his friend Josh were great company! Very nice to met them, I hate eating alone and the Pooch was sleeping...

Okay, so I think it is just the trailer park management telling people that they should evac. They are .5 miles from the fishing pond on one side of the Platte. We are 1.054 miles from them.

I tried to explain that to sister-in-law, who said that everything was dry. The initial report was that Denver was going to get hammered again starting around 10:00 pm tonight (30 minutes), and that was when they expect more flooding. So of course things are okay now. The whole point of evacuation is to leave before it's too late. Not to get killed trying to leave when your car is already floating.

Well now the east end where I came to work is closed according to my roomate that was supposed to work at 4am. Not sure how I'm supposed to get back into town.

Anyone know about getting into Berthoud from I25 is that open? I was supposed to pick up an anemone but now I'm not sure if I would be able to get there or home. >.<

Hoping everyone is staying home today.

Spent the last half hour planning/researching route into office. Enough roads/highways are closed that everyone is going to be funnelled into the same roads. Traffic will probably be a nightmare. :banghead::banghead:

From johnstown or work? If work go to 287 and come in from the west side of berthoud. If johnstown, south on 17 or 13 then west in to berthoud.

GF just texted that 34 and I25 is flooded? (Barely far enough I can't see it from work security poles)

I'm less worried about getting to Berthoud, but rather making it home. Don't want to pickup a very time sensitive critter and get stuck. Guess I'll have to go home first. (Which may involve all the way to HIghway 85 then down over up and over the back roads. (Since apparently the road north I took at 12am is now closed as well as Johnstown/257)

north on mc whinney, or what ever it is called to crossroads. east on CR to 17 or that road just east of walmart dist. it's dirt but across 34 (SB) is paved down to 402. 402 to east frontage road to 60. I don't recommend the frontage road from 34 as it will be a cluster. you're gonna have to zigzag to home base.

If it's still open I was hoping 34 east to 83rd and south as it turns into 77/2 rivers on down to 60 and back into town. Supposedly barricades east end of town, but I'm sure I can get around. What sense would it be to brave the floods then stopped at the edge of dry town. (Well 60 in town flooded, but can go around it.)

Scared of what may be waiting in my basement.
