View Full Version : Closing the books on Ex-Senator John Morse: Last BFDF Fundraising Appeal

With honesty, honor and integrity...
After the drama and the passion of the last months’ emails, it seems almost anticlimactic to send this one. We did it. We won.
Not “we, the BFDF” but rather “we, the people”. Together, we fired a shot across the bow of legislative arrogance and encroaching tyranny. We fought – and beat - an entrenched political machine that, by all accounts, should have ground us into pulp. We pushed back against the billions of Mike Bloomberg, the arm-twisting of Joe Biden and even the persuasion of no less a personality than Bill Clinton to prove that Colorado is run by Coloradans and defined by our values, not by their agenda or their money.
While we’re certain many legislators will try to turn a deaf ear to our message that there are repercussions for defying your constituency, many more have heard it clearly and are reassessing their positions. More importantly, many citizens across this nation have gotten the message, too, and have been inspired to start exploring legal ways to reclaim the reins of their local government. Thanks to your willingness to support and stand by us, we may very well have been able to fire America’s second “shot heard ‘round the world” and make a real, tangible difference in securing our liberties.
However, we have one final task to complete before closing the books on the John Morse recall and that is to settle accounts in a more literal sense. Our remaining legal bill is somewhere in the neighborhood of $10,000 and we would like to pay it without further delay. It may not be as dramatic a mission as reclaiming our government or making political history but honoring our debts and fulfilling our obligations are just as basic and integral to our beliefs.
If you are able, please help us by again contributing to the cause. While straight donations are always gratefully accepted, we are also finally in a position to offer something for sale – copies of the “Free Colorado” flags we displayed so proudly when our victory was announced. These flags are available as both a limited-run (only 100 produced) Collector’s Edition and a 3’ x 5’ all-weather edition at www.freecoloradoflag.com (http://t.ymlp317.net/qyakausyemadabbagauuum/click.php).
We hope we can count on your continued support but we know we could not have achieved this victory without you and we will be forever grateful that you joined the fight.
“We, the people” stood up. We spoke up. We fought back. And we won.
With our sincerest gratitude,
The Basic Freedom Defense Fund

In all honesty, I kind of hate to see you guys close your doors. You did such awesome work, I have to wonder if it wouldn't be possible to spin this into an organization that does other stuff, for example, supporting the ballot initiative to repeal the mag ban.

Things like that, require time and money. IIRC, all involved have regular jobs.

You guys are missing a golden opportunity.
The time is ripe for a real grass roots firearms organization in this state.
An effective one.
I think you would have tremendous backing at this time.

BFDF is trying to close their debts from this campaign ... not sure if they're going away or not. I believe the Recall John Morse FB is going to transmogrify because of all the feedback about not going away. A lot (most?) of us don't have 4 months of our lives to give away on another huge effort right now but there are folks who want to keep the spark alive.
I would remind you all that we succeeded at the grass roots level. If we want to do more, I honestly and firmly believe we need to talk about how Denver and DC have given us legislation without representation for the past several years. We need to keep talking it up and keep people informed without being annoying or sounding crazy. It can be anything from vocally reading between the lines on newscasts while you're in a group at work to wearing a Free Colorado hat/shirt to pointing out a problem with the legislation or facts the Dems aren't telling us.
Remember the general public is uninformed and uninterested in most of this until we get their attention about something that affects them. State taxes going up? "Oh yeah, you don't remember how they raised taxes last winter to pay off the public employees union? I think they claimed it was an educational expense but it was really a $1.1B payoff to PERA." Healthcare costs going up? "This is what happens when you hand out free stuff to whole new classes of people with no real plan to contain costs -- but it gets worse because they're probably making the private insurance part ineffective on purpose so they can drive people to what they REALLY want: universal government-controlled healthcare."
There IS a separate group organizing the ballot initiative to repeal the magazine ban -- please feel free to donate to them and help them collect signatures -- they don't have much time to gather the needed signatures.

If BFDF continued, I'd be very pleased. A local group without the gay bashing baggage would be a boon.
sent some money for a flag, now I'm wondering if I should have got the outdoor one instead.. Hmmm..
I see you have now added a petition drive for the Colorado Senate/House to repeal these laws.. Already signed.

One that doesn't constantly look to sling mud at or attack other Pro-2A organizations? I'd sign up in a heartbeat.
I've been checking out the Texas State Rifle Association (https://www.tsra.com/) as an example. How cool would it be to have something like Colorado State Rifle Association license plates? https://rts.texasonline.state.tx.us/NASApp/txdotrts/SpecialPlateOrderServlet?grpid=60&pltid=114

Guys, I love all the feedback but I'm a peon. Please go to the gotremorse.com (http://gotremorse.com), bfdf.org (http://bfdf.org) and https://www.facebook.com/recalljohnmorse and give 'em your feedback. At this point, I know Rob Harris wants to keep pressing under another banner and he has lots of ideas. I will keep helping him to some extent but honestly, I hate politics and was looking forward to getting back to my Real Life now that Mr. Morse is out.

Just got this in my email:
Look at what you did....
We are approaching “D plus 14”, two weeks after our successful recall on the night of September 10th – the first such recall in Colorado’s history. In the months leading up to that night, we emailed you many times with pleas for contributions of time, money or both. We could never guarantee that such donations would ever amount to anything or that you weren’t simply throwing away your resources. But you gave anyway and we succeeded because of it.
Our communication could end here. We could say our thanks, claim victory and simply move on. But something significant is happening and it’s worth sharing. Consider it a Return on Investment Report.
From TIME magazine (http://t.ymlp240.net/ymavauusjjarauwyacauuum/click.php):
“Any wind still left in the sails of gun control advocates likely died—at least for now—when Colorado voters successfully recalled two state senators on Sept. 10.”
From FOX News/The Associated Press (http://t.ymlp240.net/yjacauusjjaaauwyaiauuum/click.php):
"Gun control backers say they have yet to win a single new Senate supporter, and many worry that the muscle shown by pro-gun groups and voters last week in Colorado will make it even harder to find converts."
From CNN.com (http://t.ymlp240.net/ybacauusjjavauwyaaauuum/click.php):
"What we don't know: Will the shooting at Navy Yard change the political landscape? President Barack Obama pushed [for laws]... to cut down on the access Americans would have to firearms, but they never gained traction. At the state level, it's been a similar story. The successful recall elections last week of two Colorado lawmakers who backed new gun restrictions sent a shiver through the gun control lobby."
From The Washington Post (http://t.ymlp240.net/yhaxauusjjacauwyaiauuum/click.php):
“Obama continues to favor gun control, which he reiterated Tuesday when asked by Telemundo in an interview. But the issue, for the foreseeable future, is settled: Gun control is dead.
Days earlier in Colorado, voters tossed out two state senators because they had supported laws requiring background checks for gun transfers and limiting the capacity of ammunition clips. That dashed hopes that gun-control advances could be made in the states if not in Washington....
Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) didn’t even go through the motions. He said at a Politico breakfast Tuesday that the recall vote in Colorado ‘does not bode well for asking people to vote for legislation similar to that which went down in the Senate just a few months ago.’”
Our victory here has created ripples that are spreading across the country. Our actions have made those – even at the highest levels of government - who would ignore our voices and steamroll our rights pause and think twice. Our willingness to stand up, speak up and insist on holding our elected officials accountable is inspiring others around the country to do the same.
We cannot and will not stop here. We have already sent a survey to our remaining Colorado legislators, requesting that they state, for the record, their position on repeal of the East Coast laws championed by their former colleagues. We are gathering citizens' signatures for a petition - available here (http://t.ymlp240.net/ywanauusjjacauwyapauuum/click.php) for signing - to show those legislators that the people are not done speaking and will be heard from now on. We are not just keeping the pressure on, we are planning to turn it up.
A spark has been struck in Colorado and it is igniting tinder across this nation. This flame of liberty is fragile and will require tending – but it is burning. Because of us. Because of you.
Nice work.
Sincerely,
The Basic Freedom Defense Fund

I had one of those in my inbox as well. I'm hoping it's a ripple building into a wave.
They should sell this t-shirt with the date of the recalls on it.
