I saw that too. Unfortunately, it "ain't gonna" get any better until we get our heads out the sand, or get rid of the "leave me alone" attitude and get involved in things...

On the other hand, most schools are getting away from text books, so hopefully it won't "spread"....

Saw it earlier today too. Pretty unbelievable and yet simultaneously I now expect nothing less.

Revisionist history. Nothing new in the government run re-education facilities. Just repeat the lie often enough...

Yep! Talked with a college student yesterday and she was saying how her History class was teaching that the Founders weren't here for religious liberty or any other reason related to tyranny, etc. etc.

Seperation of church and state do not appear in the constitution.

They've dumbed down the Bill of Rights for AP exam?

Holy crap, everything on that page passes me off.

Government handouts are poisonous and will kill anyone who comes to depend on them.

Government schools only serve the government.

This is why I love, love love used book stores.
I scoop up old textbooks- especially History books.

I only hope that parents of kids stuck in schools teaching revisionist history take a strng hand in guiding them to how events really occurred.

This is why we home school. Stone had it right, very right. The school system is literally there to make drones out of the children, and have even said so in publications, so, why is everyone so surprised about this?

General Education Board -

"In our dreams, we have limitless resources and the people yield themselves with perfect docility to our molding hands. The present education conventions fade from their minds, and unhampered by tradition, we work our own good will upon a grateful and responsive rural folk. We shall not try to make these people or any of their children into philosophers or men of learning, or men of science. We have not to raise up from among them authors, editors, poets or men of letters. We shall not search for embryo great artists, painters, musicians nor lawyers, doctors, preachers, politicians, statesmen, of whom we have an ample supply…The task we set before ourselves is very simple as well as a very beautiful one, to train these people as we find them to a perfectly ideal life just where they are. So we will organize our children and teach them to do in a perfect way the things their fathers and mothers are doing in an imperfect way, in the homes, in the shops and on the farm."

I don't know if I would go so far as to say drones. My sister and I were taught in public schools, both my parents were public school teachers. My wife, sister, brother-in-law are all teachers, all public schooled. My wife always tells me or brings home the work a lot of kids do that makes me happy and they are in middle school. She also shows me the stuff that is quite annoying as well (typically obama)
Parents are the true teachers and they are the direct influence on kids at least up until about 8th grade and high school. Most kids opinions in her class are directly representative of the parents. the love/hate obama stood out clearly among the students during the elections.

I think a good bit of these instances are personal preferences by administrators. Some will blatantly come out and say they want to brainwash the kids, but a lot of teachers out there still want the kids ot be free thinkers and let them write papers on whatever they please, do projects on whatever they please, something that pertains to their interest but at least still remains in the guidelines for the class/project.
I think some of you may have missed last school years thread about the ar-15 project even after sandy hook. It all depends on those in the position of power at the school/district.

I know there will be a few instances where the child performs greatly, and the teacher aids this along, but that will be just a few cases. As a mass whole, the school system is a failure, and an accepted one by the mass majority.

Take a close look at "Common Core" what should have been a good idea standardizing curriculum has turned into a social engineering program.

Well, for start, the number of people who mistake GATV for GTAV! :P http://kotaku.com/gta-v-gets-trolled-hard-1333301293 (A bit OT, but a funny story nonetheless)

You would be surprised how many teachers don't like this system, but are forced into it, or it is better than what they are working with now.

Teachers are to the school board what cops are to the legislature. If either employee strays too far from the party line, they will either have a miserable existence at work or they will be unemployed.

Neither set of employees has much say over the rules and both are the proverbial rubber meeting the road. Like all friction surfaces, you tend to wear down over time. Conform or be broken.

I am glad there are some who stand up, because they seem to be a dwindling group; unloved and under appreciated. Public service is least appreciated by the politician who is bent on being served by the public.

I personally oppose any collective bargaining for any public employee.

I agree with the union issue for a public employee. My wife can opt out of the union, not pay the dues, but still receive the protect and gets all the benefits of the union without the cost. It makes absolutely no sense. I don't see why a union is necessary. It is just more money blown without need.
I am union as well, but work for a publicly traded company, and if I opt out of the union, I opt out of a job.

The teachers are great individuals, there are obviously some exceptions like with any profession. Some are there for the benefits, get tenure and waste away their time and pollute students minds until they retire with a great retirement plan. But on the other hand there are a lot of really great individuals out there that accept this very underpaying job and work a lot more hours that any typical worker, do everything they can to help kids learn as best as they can, deal with parents who don't understand their own kids needs, don't pay attention to their kids homework, don't give a shit about their kids grades...etc. etc. etc.

Just tonight my wife comes home from conferences and has an issue with a new student who came from Denver school district. the problem is they taught the kid in Spanish down there. Around here they don't offer that. They put the kid in normal classes because in Spanish it is easy to understand as that is the kids first language. But around here, only English is spoken, there is no Spanish classes, very few bilingual teachers and they never got the info about the kid only learning in Spanish classes. So the kid has 1/2-3/4 completed work but doesn't understand most of it and has a 0% in a couple classes. Denver schools dropped the ball sending this little tidbit of info over. My wife is the one who gets to figure it out and now get the kid extra attention. I won't go into why I think this is bullshit and why I think the kid probably shouldn't be in the country in the first place, but it isn't an uncommon issue.

Being a conservative teacher is definitely against the grain, but it is probably about a 50/50 split in most schools that I am familiar with. The unfortunate part is the dems get more of the teachers vote because they cater to them, they always offer higher taxes to go to schools, gambling expenses to go to schools, marijuana taxes to go to schools, blah blah blah. But if we as gun owners or hunters or outdoorsmen etc were offered that chunk of change to go to our cause, our paychecks, our retirements, we would dive in to.

"No devious intention in the definition" pure Bullshit.

Also the line in the article where the author of the book states: "the book was written BEFORE the DC v Heller decision.". More pure Bullshit.
Gee, my history books in school were written waaaay before DC v Heller and they included the "unabridged" Amendments........how do you figure they ever managed back then?
