Reloading used .223 single stage RCBS. I get one of two outcomes.
1. Case crush......obvious solution. Bullet is sometimes loose in the neck.
2. Seems ok, but the bullet is loose in the neck, I have this problem alot!
I just cant get any consistency..........any help?
Did You trim the cases?
Are they all loose or just some? if just some, then that would be My guess..

If that's my probem, it's time to buy a timmer.
You have Calipers?
Measure for OAL..

OAL is inconsistent, over and under. Neck diameter is within tolerance, typically under the spec'd .253
Yeah, I see a trimmer in your future...[Tooth]

I really appreciate your help. This has saved me from messing up valuable materials.
The thing that has worked for me in the past is once all the cases are trimmed, set Your seating depth so that the top of the case is just under the top of the crimp groove.and just enough tension to make the case tight.. then take a factory crimp die and set it so it just barely crimps the case..
Of course if the bullets don't have the crimp groove,, disregard....
I have a simple solution. First, dont crimp. Second, if the brass is too long, toss it.
Make sure the neck inside diameter is no more than 0.220. You have to have some tension to hold the bullet in place.
buy yourself a cheap lee trimmer. if you are going to just toss the brass that is too long just give it to me!
If you go through Midway they have a "go no-go" gauge. It's a piece of plate aluminum with all the necessary notches cut into it for the many different calibers. You simply slip the brass into the appropriate notch and it tells you instantly if you have to trim or not. I can do about 500rnds during 1 episode of South Park.
If your cases are to loose holding the bullets I have found that resizing them again works. I bought some virgin brass from sportsman and I had to resize the cases because bullets were falling out and some of the necks were bent and needed it anyway.
If you are using a single stage press and getting crushed cases I would say to back out the die a turn then back out the seater screw in the middle and slowly work it in until the bullet seats.
