View Full Version : Gauging interest for a new long range match...
I am gauging interest for a possible new long range match out at the Pawnee Sportsmans Center. Now that they have a new 1k range and are working on improving it etc, I have asked them about running a monthly rifle match out there. It would be similar to a P dog match etc. We now have moved it to the 2nd saturday of the month as was overwhelmingly wanted.
If there is enough interest, I think we could get the ball rolling!!
Details to follow!!
3rd Sat is direct competition with PWSA , gonna limit your draw . 2nd weekend is the open spot that doesn't conflict with the other matches .
3rd Saturday? Dood? Your killing me.
3rd Saturday guarantees I'll never be there.

Deffinately interested, but not that weekend.

This I'll definitely try to make every time... just like my fav P-Diggity Dog match at Pueblo [Beer]
Alright it looks like we can make the 2nd Saturday of the month work for the match!! It will kick off November 9th with "Feed the Gobbler" - Long Range Steel Challenge hosted by Victory Defense Consulting. I believe ThunderBeast is coming in to run that match similar to what they did for the "Farewell to Freedom" Shoot awhile back. From there we will go with the 2nd Saturday of the month and see where it goes from there. Interest level, match structure etc.
Details will be posted as I receive them!
Nice work! It's on the calendar.
We are gonna aim to start this in January as we are still working out a few things. Stay tuned!! I'll make a new post when all the details get figured out etc.

Just Found This Thread, Definitely Interested.
Sorry I thought I had updated this already. My fault on not getting it up sooner. Alright this match is being postponed indefinitely in light of a new match that was announced on the same day.
Trigger Time Gun Club jas announced a monthly "sporting rifle" style match at one of their ranges on the second Saturday of the month. In light of that, I think it will be difficult to run/complete with a match the same day as another one so close by.
So for the time being this match is on hold.
If their match fee stay's at what it is I don't think competition will be an issue , they're pretty much pricing themselves outa the market .

How Much Do You Think They'll Charge?
They , Trigger Time , have already posted $125 for the first match .

Pawnee Sportsmens Should Definitely Not Worry About The Competition. In Fact, I Think They'd Be Surprissd At The Turn Out.

Ouch. $125 for a local match is pretty steep. I know TriggerTime is a business and making money is the name of the game, but wow.
And yes I realize targets are expensive to buy and maintain.
So for the time being this match is on hold.
Put on a quality match and they will come.

^^^This. Just look back at the last few months, been a bunch of people starting to get into long range/precision game and we are a small segment of the shooting public.

Yeap, I might shoot a big once a year match for that kind of entry fee, but not a monthly match. Between Pueblo, Raton, and CRC, there's no way in hell I'm dropping another $125/month for match entry.

More so than most would know.
$125 is a lot for a local match, but they aren't running a standard local match. They are running a Raton style SRM match. 10 stations etc etc. Raton is an awesome match, and I know it is only $35 too, but once you add in fuel, drive time, a hotel if you stay overnight etc, $125 sounds pretty decent to me. They are also having pretty big prizes for a local match. I think first place is around $350 and it goes down from there.
I know many are not looking for that style of match, but I wanted to clarify what TTGC's match was.

All true, but personally, for a guy that's fairly new to it, There's not much chance of winning so the prize table means very little to me unless it goes DEEP into the field. Simply by the caliber of shooters in the area, it's just donating to their winnings for most guys. Don't get me wrong, I may still shoot it once a year or so, but I wouldn't shoot it every month. Raton isn't as bad on Gas if you get together with a few guys to travel down and back. That and for me personally, I get hotel rooms for free due to traveling a LOT for work and belonging to every rewards program known to man hahaha.
Granted I'm not in the same boat as most but I can tell you if you guys are running a match @ Pawnee for $20ish entry, That's the one I'd shoot every month vs the $125 for a prize table I'll probably never be touching. As said before, run a good match (especially at a reasonable entry cost) and people will come.
First this isn't a dig at You Austin , this started when we heard about the match fee 2 weeks ago .
For most people there is still going to be 1-2 hours drive time still involved , some more especially the shooters from the south . So there is still going to be a travel expense . I can't say for them but to me the reasoning that " that's the money you spend going to Raton " is flawed . Just because I spend that money on gas and lodging on top of the match fee doesn't mean I want to here . To add the travel expenses to the match fee appears as nothing more than an attempt to make more money off the top .
A match fee structure should not be sold by " this is what people pay " for the whole package of match and travel costs for a similar match . The match fee needs to be determined by the market and what it brings to the table .
I can tell you that when the guys around here heard about the match to start there was a huge amount of interest and 2 weeks ago when we heard the match fee it went to zero and the prevailing thought was WTF were they thinking .
When you figure 12 months at 125 each that's 1500 in just match fees . That's a huge chunk of change out of the shooting budget without figuring in equipment and expendables.
If the FB page that shows the number of shooters that will attend is any indication I'm not the only one that feels this way . There are 8 signed up and only 2 that I know . And the other guy I know has told me this is a one time deal to scout the location for the SH cup .
The end result is its their match to do with what they please but I'm pretty sure they shot themselves in the foot with the fee .
No worries Chuck! I didn't take it like that at all!
I too would travel to Pawnee for $20ish something to shoot this match but I will never be able to justify $125 for a local match.
Austin in don't let this fizzle out it's to great of an opportunity to let go by.

Heard 15 showed up to the match total . Talked with James before and he said he was going to bring up the fee while he was up there , haven't heard anything back since . Pretty sure in the 30 - 50 dollar range they would easily double if not triple the number of shooters . But at 125 now that would be pretty much a wash in the overall generated income , only thing though would be more exposure to the facility and store for possible customers .

Call Me Cheap, But Even $30-50 Pisses Me Off For A Monthly Local Match. At Those Prices, I May Give It A TryJust To Check It Out But It Would Be A One Time Deal. I've Got Several Ranges To Shoot At For A Lot Less Money.
I Realize There's A Prize Table & Other Expenses To Pay For But That's Not What I'm Looking For.

Any further update on the Pawnee match or any website links for the Trigger Time match info?
The Trigger Time Match is on their website. I think it is T3main.com. It's a good match. They lowered the fee to $100.
The match at the Pawnee Sportsmans Center is gonna be a go it looks like. 2nd Saturday of the month. More details to follow soon.

Great glad the Pawnee Sportsman's Center match is gonna happen. I assume you'll post info here to keep us updated?
Also, for the life of me I can't ever find any information about the Trigger Time match on the T3main.com site no matter how much I look. If anyone finds anything posted can you post a link here?
Thanks
