OK. Now I'm convinced people will pay for anything. This guy's made nearly $65,000 in the last couple of years sharpening plain ole number 2 pencils for people. But, hey...he does return the shavings so maybe $35.00 is a good deal.

BTW...if you need your pencil sharpened I'll do it for $20.00 each, 2 for $35.00, return postage included. Oh, hell. I'll even include a shiny, yellow, new #2 pencil.

$35 to sharpen pencils? What does he do, take it to the top of a mountain in Tibet, reach enlightenment with the monks, letting the chi flowing off of him sharpen them?

I don't get it...So was he sharpening all the pencils to be used by the census or something? Who the F would send him a new pencil and $35 and have him sharpen it for them? Seems to me like something only the govt would do...

Brilliant! Wish I thought of it.

The secret is to know what his primary and secondary angles are or if he strops them convex on leather or paper.

Can he do the hair drop split test when he's done?

BP has a lathe and would do a better job. A skilled pencil smith is difficult to find.

A SUCKER AND HIS MONEY ARE SOON SEPARATED. ... This is why coffee shops can charge $7.00 for a cup of sludge.... This is why people pay $200.00 plus per month for cell service.... on and on and on.....

If Americans weren't so damn stupid we probably wouldn't be circling the drain, and households wouldn't be broke.

The reason it's so expensive is that it's done using Green Tecnology.

I read an article about this guy last year. basically he's a comedian who started doing the 'artisan pencil sharpening'thing as a shtick, and was shocked to find out people took him seriously enough to pay his prices.

Basically he's the Andy Warhol of pencils.

'Artisan pencil sharpening'? People display the pencils he sharpened?

I've got to agree with Bailey Guns- the guy is a genius. It's not the actual sharpening; it's the packaging. He sends the newly-sharpened pencil back with the graphite covered in its own tube of clear plastic, the entire pencil comes back in another clear plastic tube, and it looks like he sends the carefully-collected shavings in another small container.

Of course, we have the Wolrd's Best pencil sharpener here at home, which renders his performance moot...;)

Is this why I haven't seen hare krishna's giving out pencils in a long time? Can't charge those prices and remain a non-profit.

Organic and Artisnal food fall into the same category. Also carbon credits and being green.

A smart person would figure out how to sell carbon credits to fund their hunting and shooting.
