View Full Version : So how do you keep your paperwork with your SBR?
OK, so I figure I have a good 6-9 months to sit and think about this but exactly WHERE will I keep a copy of the Form 1 (and Form 4 if I have have the suppressor attached) when I have it out with me? I guess my first thought is to make multiple copies and keep one in my soft bag, my range bag, my hard case and maybe even in the inner pocket of my plate carrier?
Where do YOU guys keep your forms so that you stay out of jail? And does anyone know if there is any specific rule of how big the copy needs to be (actual size copy or could I reduce it to say 50% and keep it readable to make it easier to fold up and store in the buttstock battery compartment?)

I've just made full color front and back copies of everything and keep it in my shooting bag.
Never had a time where anyone even cared about the stuff.

I do the same as well. Only people that have asked me, weren't LEO or ATF. I told them to suck it.

I carry B&W copies. This way i know copy from Original. I take the ones in my rifle case that i will be using that day - weekend. I do not leave them in a case, just because. Wouldn't be the first time i opened a side pouch and went FUK. Not a place i want to keep paperwork that has my soc sec number among other important info.
I watermark my color copies my self by printing "copy" in a very light gray over color copies with my printer at home. I used to be able to get watermarked copies at Office Max but lately they can't seem to do it. I usually get several copiers made. I get a couple laminated and carry one stashed in my shooters bag or gun case. I also have a regular copy that I will fold up and stash somewher in the gun. I don't like shrinking them because I don't want any law enforcement person having any difficulty reading it.

I take pictures of the front and back of my Form 1s and 4s with my I-phone and keep them in a separate folder under my I-Phone pictures. I also have a copy in my shooting bag.and another copy in my gun safe. If anyone ask, I try and educate them rather than tell them to f...k off. The more people we can educate the better off we all will be.
I full color scan all my Form 1 and 4s - front and back. Keep a .pdf copy on my home computer and on an encrypted thumbdrive I keep on my keychain, I also email a copy to myself that stays in a folder in my gmail account. I print out an color copy (front/back) of the scan and put it in an envelope that goes in my range bag. I keep the originals in a separate file in my NFA safe.
Only ever asked to produce a document once - and that was by the range master of an out-of-state range I was at for a class. He was being a douche-bag but it was easier to show him than argue. Never had any ATF, DOJ or LEO ever ask me for my paperwork or even blink an eye at classes/ranges when I pull out cans or little shorties.

Basically what he said. Keep a copy in the dedicated SBR bag and the car. Original went to the safety deposit box at credit union.
I do shrink them and keep a copy in the grips. It is all legible so I don't see an issue. Never had anybody ask though.
-one copy in the grip, one copy in range bag.

Yeah, I think I am leaning that way. I dont always have my range bag with me so I will probably make full size copies for my range bag, padded soft case and a "shrunken copy" that I can roll up and put in the battery compartment of my Magpul stock. Should work. Thanks guys! Hope this thread helped other newbies to NFA like me :-)
