So, Saturday 9/21 seemed to be a busy day. Countless events everywhere. Missed a bunch of cool ones with girlfriends move-in and aunts funeral. Went smooth all but for a little hiccup.
I'll preface this by saying yes, my girlfriend did something quite stupid and I've already said a bit, and later when she's more calmed down I'll do it again. There's a reason I always drive when we go anywhere.
Anywho so we had some helpers for her to move in. I was in the moving truck and she was in her car w/ the brother in law driving. They arrived before me. The story I got after the fact was this. Going along Hwy 60, came upon some vehicles going really slow. They ended up moving to pass. (Dumbass brother in law, not like there's any rush.) That's when they saw the head of this procession was a 4 Wheeler carrying pipe. With oncoming traffic they couldnt beat the whole line and ended up going between the ATV and the truck behind them. The people in the trunk started honking/yelling and waving at them. They kept up so they didn't want to stick around and took the next chance to jump around the ATV. While doing that is when my girlfriend pulled the retard move of flipping them off because she was already upset/on edge from the rest of the day. (No excuse) They went into my neighborhood and supposedly drove around a couple times and arrived right before the truck.
We got to unloading and while I was in the basement with one of the others. Roomate said something about some people attacking the other people with me. I go scrambling upstairs and can hear some woman screaming f bombs and then another guy yelling. I get out front and there's 2 guys one pretty large doing the drill sergeant 2 feet from the brother in law and the woman screaming at my girlfriend. She was apologizing and that's when I got the gist of kinda what was happening. At that point I didnt see anyone hands on. Told my elderly roomate/coworker to call the police. He said something about not his people. I repeated call the fucking police. He kinda looked at me retarded and I ran inside to get a phone since he was useless. I dialed 911 while heading back to keep an eye on things. Dispatch was retarded and kept sounding confused about my street name even after I spelled it and they were repeating it back right. Meanwhile things are looking ugly. I finally get to explaining the situation. The call seemed to drop for a moment and I put the phone down while telling something to roomate and by that time the people were starting to back off and go to their truck. They left and we gave dispatch a description. Was harder since vehicle had no plates.
In the aftermath I found out the one had supposedly banged his hand on the truck while the brother in law was inside. When he came out the guy pushed him which knocked the sunglasses off his hat. Then from there on was the yelling including threats to put him down. They were yelling about something about kids in the truck and them riding close on the ATV's ass, the bird, and that they kicked dirt up at the atv drivers face. Lots's of arguing about get out of our town (when BILK said he didnt live there) etc and how they just lost farm/everything.
Took 10minutes or so and an officer arrived. Had me bring out those involved with the initial traffic situation. Took his notes. Told us he thought he knew who they were. We didn't want to press charges. He gave girlfriend/ her BIL lecture about both sides poor judgement. Theirs a little more so to hunt them down in a neighborood etc, but also that flipping them off was a chargeable offense. Went to talk to them and said he may be back but never did.
So I'm not happy about a few things. Other than the idiot BIL and girlfriend provoking these people (Not that they wern't way out of bounds too.) I'm pretty pissed at the roomate because if hed called the police like I asked I'd have been more free to try to invervene verbally or take video for the police.
As far as my actions. I'm pissed that I didn't have anything more ready at hand, with the move in most of my stuff was buried and only thing I coulda got quick was an unloaded 930SPX. I didn't go get anything even if it had been handy though as I felt like that would be too much of an escalation since I hadn't seen any hands on. Sure it may have scared them off but the police follow up would have been uglier. So it's angry I didn't have them more ready, though I'm happy I didn't grab them. The BIL actually had a Glock 23 on him. I also think it was another example perhaps where home carry would have been smart. Because rather than grabbing something and brandishing it stupidly, seeing people already armed might have helped prevent them walking up and starting anything in the first place.
