So The mag ban has done a wonderful job of curbing the rampant crime the state of Colorado has. My question is..... Can 10 round magazines for a .458 socom in an AR platform be legally purchased in this state now? They look an awful lot like 30 round 5.56 magazines but only hold 10 .458 socom rounds. If the mag is stamped 5.56 you couldn't buy it. An unmarked mag tho?

I'm going to say they are banned as well. Unless they are not readily converted to hold more than 15 rounds of .223 they would be illegal.

If a mag is stamped for a specific caliber and is intended to hold only 10 of that caliber..... it's legal. it would have to be stamped for that caliber though.

As far as I know the AG has not made a definite 'ruling' on the subject. So you are in legal limbo land.

I have thought about buying a case load of them and pushing the issue.. but I don't have the capital to pull it off yet.

My non-scholarly take on it:
As soon as you load it with 5.56, you show intent, and are therefore in violation of said law.

But I'm no lawyer.

Readily converted doesn't care what is stamped on the mag. The only marking on the mag that matters to this law is a production date.
It isn't the same as stuffing 50 .22LR into a 15 round 9mm mag as that is not a feeding device for .22 (because it won't work, not because of markings).

Those two words really screwed us in finding workarounds.

458 socom uses a different follower. So you need to replace follower, to use223/5.56 Once you change the follower, you have modified mag for use other than intended .

We don't really have any specific interpretation for guidance on the answer to the question.

Thank you Arthur Dent. He's asking about the mag. Wonder if they serve In n Out over at the Restaurant at the End of the Universe?

This.

If you can count from one to potatoe, it's probably legal.

Or, I your favorite number is "W" it's probably acceptable.

Or if your favorite animal is a cucumber.

So has anybody heard the rumor that a Glock 22 mag will work in a Glock 17 in a pinch, and it holds 2 more rounds of 9mm than 40S&W? I also heard if you accidentally dropped a G22 mag on the feed lips, having a metal liner, they could possibly bend closer together, causing it to work better. Only a crazy rumor I'm sure.

I thought most people with a sense of humor did already know and understand my "tongue in cheek" answer to the OP's question. For those who did not, the point of my statement was that nobody is talking about 15 round Glock 22 mags being illegal because they could hold 17 rounds of 9mm. Not sure what that has to do with a 19 year old curve.

it was done after the AWB in CA and across the country when 10 rd mags were the norm. Realistically the less out there for anti's to rad and thnink how to deny us of the better. No Sarcasm intended.

I think a heavier PMag without any front center rib, more ribbing on each front side, better shaped feed lips and a unique follower for 458S would be the ticket. The feed lips would let small 223 or 300BKO pop right out, and the ribbing would not let the rounds sit straight in a double stack config. It would be a unique mag, and holding 15 rounds it would be larger than a 223/300 30 rnd mag.
