I love this question, the answer is Yes and No. Can I price match a big box store that is sell a product that they bought 2 train cars full of, no. Can I price match the big box store's everyday price, usually. In fact my prices are usually lower than the everyday price of the big box store.

The best one this weekend was "I know you have to have a markup to stay in business but the local big box store has the Remington 1100 Tac 4 for $799.00 can you match it? Well yes if I want to make $22.00 I could. But for that price I would rather keep it for myself.

I don't know of any vendor at a show that can compete with a big box sale.

You cannot always believe everything people say. I had a fellow at our store the other day who swore up and down that Cabela's had a sale on a certain gun that was about $25 bellow our cost. It sounded too good to be true so I told him that I would call Cabela's and verify the price. To make a long story short, the price he quoted me was total BS; it turns out that, not only was our price $10 cheaper than the big box store but, on top of this, they didn't even have the item in stock.

R&S took care of me during the Massive Panic buying.

FWIW: One time at a show a few years ago. Guy comes up and tells me. The vendor down there > has the same lower for $90.
Really, which one? The guy on the other side. Ok which table? as he points to the wall.. What's the table and vendors name? Well he's over there. Tell you what, take me "Over there" and if he is selling the same one i will not only meet that price, I'll knock off another 10%, just for your business.

Well i'm not sure which table it was, BUT i know someone was selling them cheaper. GTF you're tire kicking w/out any verifiable price, have a good day.

You want it cheaper, show me something in writing, Or call, from a LGS and the price can be flexible. As you said, No One can compete against a big box volume vendor and stay in business, long

It will always be an uphill battle. Especially with larger internet companies having sales/promotions which means not in stock but we want your money.

It ain't just the gun industry. I get people trying to pull the "XXX has it cheaper" card all the time. Rarely does that pan out.

You can have it cheap, or you can have it now. You can't always have both.

Randy, you're a not for profit business right? Just give it all away! [hahhah-no]

Wait a minute. You want to be in business AND make a profit????

Haven't you heard that making a profit is evil and will soon be illegal in Amerika.

I had a small prescription bottle with label, i kept M&M's in. Once seated, During the usual banter i'd grab the bottle, excusing myself for being hung over and down the script jar. I miss pranking on clients.

i no longer price match and i no longer raise prices to please gouging vendors . if you can get it cheaper, great go get it . if a vendor has a problem then they can by my product and make it up to their liking . people quote prices to me all day and i just shrug it off . i have wasted a ton of time and money playing the price game over a buck or two. randy you have good prices and so do i , just let it drift and keep on truckin .the fact that your still around the shows speaks for its self [Beer]
