I looked at investing in a location in Lafayette with a "partner". DD wanted $2,000,000 LIQUID assets to even talk to us. Their franchise fees weren't cheap after that. Needless to say, I don't have a DD in Lafayette

How do you know you wouldn't like Starbucks coffee if you haven't tried it?

Dunkin Donuts coffee is the best though. The one back home was a favorite hangout for the local police. And they know good coffee and doughnuts.

I see. My wife loves it so I have to give them my business. I've had it a few times. I'm not into the foo-foo stuff but their regular coffee is pretty tasty. But Dunkin Donuts is hard to beat for regular coffee.

Ugh, all the Munchkins I ate while at Ft Drum. We had one outside the gate and every Thursday was 100 of those and a box of coffee for our sergeant's time training. We had a couple in Kalamazoo, MI when I was growing up, but they got shut down since everyone went to Sweetwater's instead.

I remember back in the early 80's they had these donuts, like 8" or something. They still have those?

Roger Ronas
09-24-2013, 21:55
In The Springs here I don't think the donuts are as good as they were back in the 70's and 80's. 52 varieties made fresh every 4 hours used to be their motto.

Finally getting the Dunky coffee fix.

I don't speak Fratalian, so I never got the hang of ordering plain coffee at Starbucks (Galactica whore). Large, light and sweet. What's so hard about that?

Dunky donuts are ok, but the coffee is the best for the price.

Anyone who has been to Boston knows there is a Dunky and and Walgreens on every corner. [Flower]

Don't let Jim kid you. I know he is Jonesing for a blue and white cup from a Bodega.

There's only one way to order breakfast. Baconandeggonahardroll Yahoo [bottle] not a can. OR Coffelightandsweet. They use to be called DELICATESSENS when we lived there, Not this "BODEGA" SHIT. Bad enough the Russians fucked Brooklyn up in the late 70s. The Columbians didn't help either.

I'm not seeing the allure.

DD was maybe a monthly treat on Sundays growing up. It is OK, but I'm definitely not driving to broadway for it.

There was a DD in Fort Collins about, oh, 20 years ago. Occasionally my mom'd take my sis and me there. I loved their donut holes. Sadly, I was too young for coffee then, so I haven't a clue whether I'd like it or not :P

Yeah, when I moved to the Denver area I looked it up. Nevermind you needed to already be a franchise owner plus other crazy requirements. Oh well, I guess that prevents every little shit Subway shop from popping up everywhere.

Yeah once Voodoo comes to town no other dunuts will matter. Its crazy good. The bacon maple with real quality bacon on top... mmmmmm No joke; does not matter what time of day it is, be it 12 AM or 12 PM, there is a line going out the door and around the corner over 1 block deep to get Voodoo Donuts in Portland down town. I am happy that DD is coming but its just a thing to hold me over till Voodoo opens.

kawiracer14
09-25-2013, 16:00
I grew up on Dunkins back East and it used to be good. The donuts have gone WAY down in quality in the last 20 years. They should rebrand as Dunkin Coffee because no one is going there for the donuts anymore.

As far as the coffee, I think it's weak and tasteless. It was all I knew growing up but now I do my best to avoid it when I go back to visit the parents in NH.

Starbucks (Galactica whore).

There is only one Starbuck and HE doesn't sit down to pee.

As far as Starbucks coffee goes, I've never been impressed. It's usually kind of blah IMO, a little on the weak side most times I've had it. I'll often go without rather than spend $$$ on Starbucks coffee.

what a cluster fuck! I get it, you just open, you're really busy.

That said I seriously think I could gather 12 random members of this forum and have the line moving 1000 times faster. I actually had to abandon my breakfast sandwich, which is the only reason I really wanted to go, because I was looking at another 15 minute wait just for that one item.

It's on the other side of town from me so I don't see going back anytime soon especially until they figure out their staffing issues

Slow incompetent staff wouldn't bother me as much when there isn't 200 people waiting. Last time I was at one back east I was the only person in there.

I abould have expected it, just like when Krispy Kream opened.

Welcome to almost every dunkin donuts in the country...

while I do occasionally run into a slow DD, I find them to be fast and well run. I can walk into one with 15 people in front of me in line and be out in less than 5 minutes. The key to "good ones" is that one person never leaves the register. She takes the order, someone else makes the coffee (grabs muffins/donuts), someone else is making sandwiches. keeps the line moving

Parf
09-29-2013, 08:31
Opening a place like DD, you hire an extra heavy crew for training. Some of them make it through to opening day, when another 50% drop out. By the end of the second month you will have probably trained a good crew after 200% turnover. Then it takes them another 4 months to get good at their jobs, so they can chat with you about the weather while getting everyone served quickly with good food.

DeusExMachina
09-29-2013, 08:48
They are doing pretty well considering. They have a few heavy hitters that are moving things along.

I went yesterday, line was out to the parking lot. About an hour in line, got to the front and despite a warning that sandwiches were taking 25 minutes, we had everything in 5 including 2 sandwiches.

^^This. They started to die off in the the early to mid 90's in Colorado. I know to own a DD franchise you need to agree to have at least 3 stores but they want you to have, and have incentives for 5+ stores in a region.
