Squirrel Hunter Killed When Other Hunter Mistook Him For A Squirrel
by Jon David Kahn 26 Sep 2013, 7:53 AM PDT
TOWN OF HASLEY, Wisconsin (AP) - 29-year-old Xou Chang of Wausau, was accidentally shot to death last weekend when a fellow squirrel hunter mistook him for a squirrel.

According to the Marathon County sheriff's department, Chang was shot by his friend, a 32-year-old man, also from Wausau. Chang reportedly had two dead squirrels next to him on a stump. His friend allegedly saw movement and then fired, striking Chang in the head from about 50 yards away, officials say.
The shooting occurred on private land.

?? Something seems wrong here. I thought it was going to say that the squirrel hunter had a squirrel decoy on his head or something, and wound up being shot...

I don't buy the "he thought his friend was a squirrel" BS, it's right there in what I posted ... he saw movement and fired.

Clear violation of Rule #4 (probably the most ignored of Col Cooper's 4 rules).

I would've been really suspicious if the victim was his wife. But I think this can just be filed under "S", for stupid.

Meh, the shooter just took Bidens advise and shot his shotgun in the general direction or the noise.

Wait maybe be thought he was being attacked by the rabid squirrel and was defending himself

This is what I get scared when I hunt, idiots are abundant everywhere.

Yeah, IIRC when that happened the rifle shown on TV was an SKS, NOT a Saiga. But that's Wikipedia for you.

Something like 25 years ago, I was hunting in the mountains north of Bakersfield Calif for deer. We were in an area that was basically one large plateau with a dirt forest service road circling it. And one morning, I'm sitting in a field a few yards downslope from the road watching some trails when a Jap pickup with a big ladder rack in the bed and something like a half dozen asians - Thais, Viets, Hmong, I got no clue - standing in the bed hanging on to the ladder rack drives by. They go down the road a few yards, spot a squirrel in the tree and all of the sudden, its like a huge firefight erupts as everyone in the back of the pickup starts blasting away at the squirrel and jabbering in their native tongue. The squirrel sails off the tree, one of them jumps down runs up and retrieves a bloody, furry, rag and off they go.
