Quote from Article---
"Talking to American friends, I always sense a kind of despair that the gun lobby
is too powerful to challenge and that nothing will ever change. The same
resignation was evident in President Obama's rather lifeless reaction to the
Washington shooting last week. There is absolutely nothing he can do, which
underscores the fact that America is in a jam and that international pressure
may be one way of reducing the slaughter over the next generation. This has
reached the point where it has ceased to be a domestic issue. The world cannot
stand idly by."

Didn't we stop taking directions from the English a couple hundred years ago? International problem? I'd think the Brits would have learned their lesson the last time they tried to take our guns.

which underscores the fact that America is in a jam and that international pressure may be one way of reducing the slaughter over the next generation.
First, apparently that writer knows nothing about the American spirit. We don't take too kindly to outsiders meddling in our affairs. I fact, if Americans wanted the opinions and meddling from the Brits we'd have a puckered old tart they like to call "Queen" on our currency.

Secondly, The "slaughters" occur when honest law-abiding citizens are stripped of our Rights to protect ourselves by the over-reach of our local, state, and Federal governments. The true slaughters occur in nations around the world where their citizens have no right to possess firearms to protect themselves.

This has reached the point where it has ceased to be a domestic issue.
When American citizens abuse their God-given Rights to commit violence with firearms OUTSIDE of our borders, then they can claim it's no longer a domestic issue. Until such time, I recommend they shut up & color.

It cracks me up how liberals and antis all look at the NRA and other gun rights supporters as some sort of "small but wealthy cabal looking out for the profits of the firearms industry at the expense of innocent lives".

I don't have the figures in front of me but a few years ago I dug into the money behind the firearms industry and what I came up with was kind of amazing. At that time (I'm sure they're doing better now with the last few rounds of panic buying) the ENTIRE US Firearms Industry brought in about $2 Billion a year. That's all of the gun companies combined. At that time McDonalds had revenues over $12 Billion.

So somehow an entire industry that only brings in 1/6th what ONE major fast food chain brings in is able to fund a super rich bunch of lobbyists to warp policy to increase their vast riches ... all while busy competing with each other I might add.

The simple truth is that the "Gun Lobby" is not out there protecting the interests of wealthy industrialists, they're the true voice of the grass roots ... the people.

Now, as for Piers Morgan ... I say we fly Jeremy Clarkson over, get him a bottle of Scotch and a cricket bat and sneak him into Piers' apartment.

You mean like the English soldier that had his head cut off in broad daylight and he could not defend himself and that only thing onlookers could do was video the attack?

"More Americans lost their lives from firearms in the past 45 years than in all wars involving the US."

And ten times as many per year are killed in traffic accidents. Almost that number drown per year.

How many of those firearms deaths were justifiable homicides - e.g. private self-defense and justifiable or excusable police shootings?

And something like 8% of the people that have ever been alive since the beginning of time are alive right now so absolute numbers are meaningless.

England...such a nice country with an innocent past.

Created how many 10s of millions of opium addicts in China by forcing China to accept opium instead of $$$ for trade- Opium Wars x2 in the 19th Century???? Ever heard of Hong Kong?
Enslaved India for how many years???
Imperialist colonies/slavery around the globe for how many centuries????? Still in N Ireland, Scotland, Wales BTW.
Prevented how many world wars???? Whoops, they helped instigate WW1 and did NOTHING to stop Hitler and WW2 from starting. Ask Czechoslovakia and Poland...not. Nothing like 50 million lives lost.
England has how many amendments in their Bill of Rights? Whoops, their toffee arsed subjects don't have a Bill of Rights!

Yeah, lets let England lead the rest of the world in interfering in our lives since they don't have any crime, no social problems, and really do a bang up job keeping the peace. Pathetic wankers still have a queen!!!

You know what really bums me out about Morgan? Hear me out, here. He's actually an intelligent guy.

He came onto the Opie & Anthony show years ago and did like 20 minutes or so on there. He was funny, well-informed, and genuinely interesting. Now, from the impression I got, he's not really stupid enough to believe any of the anti-rights drivel he spouts. So it really comes down to him taking money over principle and honesty. And to me, that's 100x worse than just being a drone.
Ignorance is a standard that we all have to free ourselves from, so there is still a tiny inkling of forgiveness for people who haven't yet become pragmatic enough to evaluate things reasonably; I was one of them once. But willful ignorance and/or intentionally selling a false ideal for personal gain at others' expenses is despicable.
