I was told that VLC Player would play just about anything especially a .avi file. I down loaded it even went into the setup and checked .avi in the configuration area. This file still won't run. the file was copied from a computer that the file does work on. Any help is greatly appreciated.

In VLC, you should have a "Media Information" menu somewhere. See what it says.

AVI files can be encoded, and therefore require an additional codec installed on the computer to play.

This.

It would benefit you to DL Media converter for a multitude of reasons, this being one of them. You can just switch it to the format of your choosing.

This is true, VLC WILL play just about anything and if it can't I would wonder if you have a corrupt AVI in the first place. Does a particular error pop up when trying to play or does VLC just hang? Did you already try other media player apps?

Yeah, you need to figure out what codec it is using. You can also just take the shotgun approach and download a bunch of codec packs.

It could be the flux capacitor. I'd check that first.

It likely needs a firmware update.

K-Lite Codec Pack will probably get you your codec, but your mileage may vary.

What kind of porn is it?

I'm in the TV industry and sometimes I use 2 players from a company called Elecard. One is an MPEG player and the other is an AVC player but I'll bet one of the two will work for you. Search Google to find their website.
