View Full Version : Need a new credit card processor
We recently changed to a new processor with lower rates. They suck so bad I can hardly believe they're still in business. We do both large transactions ($10,000+) for my business and small (>$300) transactions for my wife's business. Lots of the latter, fewer of the former.
Any of you guys have a processing company you really like?

I got a friend that works for one ..
But the way he talks about his job... I'd never inflict that place on someone . LOL

I use the same merchant processor as my bank.. Bank of the west. Not bad, but it's a tad on the higher fee side.

I use heartland financial. They have been great. Fantastic customer service when needed.

Tim,
I have no idea if this would help you or not, but i saw Costco offers this service. may be worth checking out
My google abilities are poor today (maybe it's the astounding level of aggravation), got a link?
Funky, we were using Costco before switching to the idiots. Kinda miss them now...

Perhaps Heartland Payment Systems? http://www.heartlandpaymentsystems.com/
I've done IT work for them, great bunch of folks.
We use the Square for different events and in the field. If I didn't need a specific register system, I would drop the CC processor at the shop.
You will need an iPad or iPhone.
It's easy to set up an account.
3% per transaction and no monthly costs.
I've heard they may hold larger transaction but if you call them they will work with you.
Next day deposits.
They just came out with a new register version with more "retail" options.
Fuck Square. Anti-2A pricks.

I'm not familiar with fees of the larger places, but Intuit has a mobile option as well.

Don't know if that's worth a look into.

The company I work for uses TGATE, the service has been good thus far and the fees are much lower than several of the options we looked into. We run our POS on iPads/iPhones using Infinite Peripherals and have had excellent reliability.

I was about to suggest Stripe, but they're pretty clearly anti-2A so F them https://stripe.com/prohibited_businesses #2 Weapons and Munitions

Do NOT use square if you have transactions that are
$1000 or more.
Read their fine print. If you are serious about your business, use a serious processor. Not Paypal or some of the other companies.

You guys do larger transactions? If so, then yes please!

Did you sign a contract with the one that sucks? If so, I screwed up and signed a contract with Crescent Processing and they suck so bad I stop using them. I had to paid them a monthly service fee for four years even though I stopped using them and went back with my bank.
Okay, Bob Becker wrote a book a few years ago about credit card processing. I bought the book, and then contacted him. He saved me a significant amount over Heartland (who I loved at the time) so I switched. The only reason I'm not with him anymore, is that my Point of Sale system manufacturer got into the game, and matched Bob's rates, while providing additional perks. I'd contact him and ask for a quote, maybe he could save you some money?
His email is: robertbecker@merchantprocessing101.com
Didn't the stock maker McMillan start up a processing service, too?

See my original post.
When I set up my FFL, I went looking for a firearms-friendly CC processor. I use Transnational now, as do a lot of other FFL guys, and my transnational account rep is looking into getting his FFL as well. Not sure if any of this is important to you or not, but let me know and I"ll send you over his contact info. They have treated me well and are well priced for what I do.

Thanks for the info. A customer is trying to start up a small FFL office/shop and needs a CC processor. Please PM me your reps info.

What do you all think of EPS? What is the normal time between a transaction and when you receive the funds?
Sams Club offers one as well as Costco. Discover used to offer a really good one, and they accepted the other cards too, so did Amex... It has been 20 years since I dealt with either of them though. Closed up shop years ago.

Can't comment on Discover, but from what I remember reading when I was going through the process - the Sam's Club/Costco solutions are slightly worse than those you'd get if you went direct. I'm assuming they take a slight cut off the top for whoever's solution they are reselling.
I have used the costco/elavon (US Bank) one for several years. If you time it right you can get reduced fees or a rebate.
The equipment or software is expensive so check that out with all of them. I cannot complain but I don't run a lot of transactions a month, generally less than 10.

This is who I was going to recommend... good name behind them and they are on the correct side of the 2A.
Stay the F away from Intuit credit card services.. I have heard horror stories about them from other people I know in my industry.
sent from a soup can and some string..
