View Full Version : Entertaining myself in Utah
Stuck in Utah for work for a couple of weeks. Thought I would post a pic or two each day until I get back. Won't be too exciting since twelve to sixteen hours of my day will be spent working.
There were some books in a little rack on the table in a diner we had breakfast at. Saw one just for me...

Got away from work long enough to grab a burger for lunch at this place. Good food and a great atmosphere. Middle of nowhere about 14 miles outside of Altamont.

I'll try to get a couple more pictures tomorrow.
sure beats flipping off raging liberals! I love little towns like that. some of the best meals I have had have been in po-dunk towns.
Get your Utah CHP while you're there!
Why in gods name are you in Starvation?
Where are the pics of your 2nd and 3rd wife? [Coffee]

And all the hoarded foodstuffs.
Don't forget to pick up a 6-pack of Poligamy Porter.

For work. That's why they pay me the big bucks.
Posting a few more pics in a bit.
Here are some photos from today.
First, here is a shot of the area I am working in. It pretty much looks the same as far as you can see. Very rocky and rugged.

Next is a sign I saw outside Pinn Willies at lunch. I found it funny for some reason.

Finally, the flare where I am working. It's burning about a forty or fifty foot flame. You wouldn't believe the heat you can feel coming off this thing even if you are a couple hundred feet away from it.

Today's Utah pictures. Nothing too exciting.
Went to check on some parts we had delivered and found this. Thought maybe someone was goofing around but we had ten large parts and all of them had this. The parts were wrapped in cellophane and apparently this special tool is used to unwrap them.

The place I have been having lunch every day this week so far has a bunch of old stuff on the porch. Snapped a quick picture of the Coke machine.

The diner where I have been having breakfast every day has these funny little books on the table. Finally found two that really spoke to me.

And here is a video of that flare. Still doesn't do it justice. It's quite impressive in person.

we have those candles all over out here. I thought it was a party or something.
There is one across the highway from our land and even though it is probably a mile away it feels like walking around in full moon light at night.
Ray, I'm under the impression that these are oil companies burning off natural gas that they run into, when they are looking for oil and not set up to utilize the gas. Any truth to that?

Sometimes that is what is happening. Especially in Weld county right now.
That isn't what is going on where I'm at though. We have a unit down for repairs so the gas can't be moved and when the line pressure gets too high it vents through the flare.
very cool stuff! I love little towns

They have those same books at the truck stop restaurant in Lusk, WY. Usually browse them coming and going to/from SD. Pretty humorous selection.
Here's today's pictures.
Took me a couple of minutes to figure out what this was. Appears to be a band saw.

Thought this bicycle looked cool.

There are flowers all along the main road here. Crazy amounts of them. Not sure how they look so good at this time of year but they appear to be very healthy.

I doubt it. I don't think they could burrow into the rocks. Lol.

Yeah, I really know what things are most of the time. I just see things and think they are cool.
Nice pics, Ray! Post up more when you can. I too love seeing small towns.

I'll have plenty of small town experiences to come, but I'm heading home tomorrow. I was supposed to be here until the 20th but we have some parts related delays so we have done all we can do here for now.
No more Utah pictures for a little while.

I work for a natural gas pipeline company. I'm a mechanical specialist. I am part of a roving crew that performs major mechanical repairs on our compression equipment.

Awe, Ray you ruined the image I had. I always saw you as the Liam Neeson character from The Grey. [LOL]
Safe travels, there is a wee bit of snow waiting for you at home.
