Below is a letter I sent to my Senator and Congressman. Please feel free to send it to yours. I would suggest you modify it to suit your style and what you want to say (I tend to glaze people over with my writing style)[Coffee]...more to come.

<YOUR RETURN ADDRESS>

<DATE>

Senator Mark Udall
B40E Dirksen Senate Office Building
District of Columbia 20510-0605

8601 Turnpike Drive, Suite 206
Westminster, Colorado 80031

Senator Udall,

I write you today because I am convinced there has never been a more pivotal time for this nation in its history. Considering the numerous challenges the United States has faced in the past, such a statement should give any reasonable person pause.

This is nothing less than a time in which the very principles of the United States are jeopardized by an executive branch, legislative bodies, an activist judiciary, and a “bureaucratic branch” that defy the will of the citizenry, seek only to preserve their position, and subvert our rights through bureaucratic manipulation. This is abuse of the consent of the governed and endangers our civil society.

I fear no terrorist organization, no foreign army, for there have always been men and women of character to defend our Nation from such dangers. The threat to our Nation comes from the very people we entrust with our liberty, our elected officials. I fear that The Bill of Rights, as put forth by our founding fathers as our most sacred principles, is at risk of being lost forever because of their actions.

With the outrageous statements made by Attorney General Holder, announcing his intention to impose a new “assault weapons ban” on February 25th 2009, implying that it would somehow alleviate the violence prevalent in Mexico, it is clear that your party intends to launch new attacks on our individual liberty and the Bill of Rights itself, using a foreign nation as an excuse. We your constituents are not fooled by such statements and misleading euphemisms like “assault weapons.” To suggest the law-abiding American gun owner or gun shop has any connection with the problems in Mexico is an irresponsible statement of sheer ignorance.

As my representative, I ask you to vote against any legislation that infringes on our Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms, including a renewed “assault weapons ban.” Your voting record while a member of the House suggests you do not feel the individual citizen should have the right to keep and bear arms. I ask you to reconsider this position. The Supreme Court recently re-affirmed this right.

As a member of the Gun Owners of America, and the Rocky Mountain Gun Owners, I will be active in protecting the Second Amendment and will seek to defeat any legislation infringing the rights it affords, and campaign to defeat in the next election any lawmaker supporting such legislation.

Sincerely,

<YOUR NAME>
