PUSSIFICATION
(http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2013/10/07/long-island-middle-school-bans-footballs-other-recreational-items/)
No balls allowed at recess...unless they're Nerf. And no cartwheels without supervision!!! Can't have that! [facepalm]

“Some of these injuries can unintentionally become very serious, so we want to make sure our children have fun, but are also protected,” Maloney said.

Without helmets and pads, children are much more susceptible to getting hurt, experts said. (genius "experts" huh?)

I guess they'll have the kids walking around in chainmail next so they won't trip and impale themselves on their pencils.

Yeah, I'm continuously asking about what they learned today so I can see what's up and give them my side if necessary.

When I gave my 8yo a .22 for his birthday, he told everyone he could see the next day at school. That didn't go over well...and I didn't give a shit.

How else are we gonna control the population but to allow natural selection to occur?

Jesus... the more I hear these stories, the more I know our decision to home school was the right one.

I just wish my school tax money could support you instead of the government run schools.

Isn't that the truth. Our school system is so broken. I am thinking that the revolution will be underway before I have kids so I am not too worried either way.

For the most parit I agree with what has been said in this thread. But I believe the real root cause is our litigious society. Schools are more afraid of parents sueing the schools when their kid gets hurt than the actual injuries the kids might sustain.

Hunh...we played "Smear the Queer", rode bikes without helmets, played full contact basketball, and a million other things, and nobody got maimed or killed. No spree shooters in my class, either...what a coincidence

Basketball with the "No blood? No Foul!" is a great game.

I have a cousin that sits in front of a TV screen damn near 5-6hrs a day watching crap programming, his Mom is a single parent and she wont allow him to cross the street and play at the park because she is afraid he will get hurt, molested, kidnapped ect. Growing up I didnt have television and very few toys, I read books, shot guns, blew shit up with potato cannons, firecrackers/ works, model rockets, had epic dirt clod wars, shared my huffy bike with my 2 younger brothers and scarred myself up with pocket knifes. Most boys today would be dead if they tried living the way I did the first 17 years of my life, at 16 I had a job, at 7 designated household chores. And im sure my Dad considers that I had it easy lol.

I shudder to think of the quantity of big wheels, not always our own, that we destroyed as a kid. The chopped ones were fun too.

And in other school related news, Common Core teaches kids that the Constitution is outdated and asks them to trim two of the amendments from the Bill of Rights. http://twitchy.com/2013/10/07/sixth-graders-asked-to-prune-bill-of-rights-from-outdated-constitution/

That was our 'reward' for a good wrestling practice when I was in High School!! "No rules basketball" is what we called it. Although, we did still leave the wrestling mats on the floor, so you know, we could practice a takedown or two while "playing basketball"!

The ramp is too low!

One of my fondest memories was going into the woods with other neighborhood kids and building a "dirt track" from the crack of dawn to the setting of the sun. Six foot berms and half-pipes were cool regardless if you had a Huffy, Murray, Red Line, or Mongoose!

How many of those were "appropriated" at odd hours of the evening only to meet certain death at the base of Flagstaff Mtn road or Red Rocks?
I shudder at the the thought.
Melted wheels, bruised calves because one didn't hold them out far enough, worn out soles of shoes.........

It's a symptom of a deeper issue.

We did that with the motorized ATC, "3 wheels of death" machines!! Nothing like trying to corner while balancing on 2 of the 3 wheels, especially if you had too much air in the tires!

Yep..."Smear the Queer". We played that in school with just about every type of sport ball imaginable with the exception of a bowling ball maybe. We did bottle rocket and firecracker wars, too. My crowning achievement was jumping from our roof with a home-made parachute. Two things about that stunt that really surprised me: 1) It didn't work. I was sure it would. 2) The hard landing wasn't nearly as hard as the ass-kicking I got from my mom for ruining a good bed sheet and being stupid.
