I whent out shooting yesterday and started thinking about getting/making a mono-pod for precision shooting. I have read various reveiws of products but would like to hear from someone not paid for their opinions. The pro's.....con's? Anyone tried or have a mono-pod and got anything to tell me about one? I come from military and we used sand socks and I liked the benefits of rear support. Thanks.

just my .02
I use a walking stick I picked up for .25 at a yard sale, the handle screwed off a 1/4 x 20 stud. I made a "U" shaped padded rest for it and besides that......it adjusts for height from a bench to standing.

I was trying to describe a one leg thing that is in the rear of the buttstock for bench or prone shooting in conjunction with my bi-pod up front.

Honestly, I'd use one solely for sighting in optics...it seems that would be its best use, as your point of impact wont change, but you can adjust your crosshairs to where the bullet landed easier than working a weapon that can move all different directions while you try to sight it in...

Check Cabella's,, Can't say that I have ever run across them locally...

When I worked at Barrett the M107 had it. I was a sniper in Special Forces prior to a medical retirement and had always used a sock with sand in it.

My take, the mono-pod was great for the range, but the sock was soooo much better for shooting at anything that might move.

How does a sand sock work? Is it literally one of those sand filled tubes?

Walmart had a mono-pod last I checked (Colfax and Wadsworth). Couldnt have been more than 20 bucks.

Get sock(like one on your foot) fill with sand(like from earth) Done. I liked mine.
And thanks Paradude54. Thats what I figured. Good at bench. Bad in real world. But I haven't been under attack at the range lately and thought of filling my time with gadgets that look tacticool!
