Last night I hit the button to close the shops garage door. Turned and went about the rest of what I needed to do to close the shop up. As Shannon and I are walking to the man door I notice something hanging down from my garage opener. The chain from the chain drive. Son of a bitch.

So here I am this morning. I have work in the shop to do, but I also have a car that was dropped off this morning before I got here to look at. Joy of joys.

Call is in to a garage door opener repair company. Waiting sucks. I am sure this is not going to hurt my CC balance much either.

Did they give you the typical "We'll have someone out between 8 and 4"? Sorry to hear- hopefully the rest of the month goes better and you get a lot of business...
Speaking of which, sorry to derail, but I've noticed that when I'm driving with no brakes applied below 20MPH in my '05 BMW 325xi, the left front axle squeaks... Did my former mechanic (laid off) not do too stellar of a job replacing my CV axle? Might need to make an appointment with you 1st of Nov.

I feel you. Our compressor went down a few months ago. Every machine in my shop except the pencil sharpener require air just to turn on. It was a mad scramble to get a loaner in here and then a $1,400 bill and a two week wait for the new unit.

Look on the bright side, at least you're the boss!

Housing coalition informed us one unit has some mold on the ceiling. Show up with some Zepp to clean it off. Nope. Entire ceiling needs replaced. Can't believe the guy didn't say anything! The floor of the unit above is likely getting replaced next time as well.

One of two things going on. 1) Pads are getting low and it is rubbing. 2) Backing plate is bent just a little.

If when it squeaks and you press the brakes does the noise go away you need a brake job. And if you just had a brake job, they went cheap on parts and you either have to suck it up till you wear through the pads and rotors again or get it redone.

Same here ! Been waiting on a next day deliver for a week only to get the wrong parts! I hate when a customers equipment is held up for stupid reasons but shit happens right.

Owning your own business is the most overrated joy next to childbirth.

Owning your own business - getting to pick the 80 hours a week you want to work.

I started this business because I wanted to start working half days.

Currently that is 7am to 7pm giving me a full 12 hours left to do whatever I want with...

Hate to say it but you have a shop full of tools, all you need was a ladder and a few minutes and you probably could have fixed it yourself. Door openers are not very complicated.

His door only has standard hardware though...

Your right, I do have a shop full of tools. And cars that need those tools being used on them.

It makes more sense to me to continue working on a car that needs to be fixed then to take my time fixing a garage door. Do I have to pay them money to fix the door? Yes. Does the customer still get the car in a timely fashion? Also yes.

Do I still have time to come here a bitch about it? Clearly yes.

Also true. Metric is the future. Live it, love it.

And buying your own crappy, expensive health insurance. And paying WAY more in FICA tax than everyone else. And having a LARGE PITA come tax return time.

I am happily spending money on accountants. Screw that. I do NOT want the headache.

I was going to say, invest in an accountant. I've got a name if you need.

Also true. Metric is the future. Live it, love it. Quit teasing me. I've been hearing about your "future" since I was 10. At least we hardly ever see Whitworth stuff.

Oh, I've got an accountant I pay a pretty decent amount to every year. I do the 'bookkeeping' part and he prepares the returns.

My tenants keep unscrewing the light bulbs in the hallway so it looks like a haunted house at night. Also $2,700 for gutters.
