Pelosi throws cold water on weapons ban

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi tossed cold water on the prospect of reinstating the assault weapons ban, highlighting Democrats’ reluctance to take on gun issues.

Attorney General Eric Holder raised the prospect Wednesday that the administration would push to bring back the ban. But Pelosi (D-Calif.) indicated on Thursday that he never talked to her. The Speaker gave a flat “no” when asked if she had talked to administration officials about the ban.

“On that score, I think we need to enforce the laws we have right now,” Pelosi said at her weekly news conference. “I think it's clear the Bush administration didn’t do that.”

Outside of the dig at the recent Republican president, that phrase is the stock line of those who don’t want to pass new gun control laws, such as the National Rifle Association.

The White House declined to comment on Holder's remarks, referring reporters to the Department of Justice. The DoJ did not respond to The Hill's request for comment.

Reid also sided with Pelosi which means AWB2 will not happen, at least not for now.

Unless: she and Reid are playing it off, relieving the public of their fear, then they sneak some bullshit into a save the children stimulus bill and we get royally bent over and pounded by a Ron Jeremy like Bill.


Other things to consider are guns are a hot seller right now, and helping to keep money flowing in the economy...maybe one bright person figured that out and let Pelosi know about it.

The only possibility is that she's seen the light with all of the gun and ammo purchases and realizes that she and all of the other libtards would be voted out of office in 2 years if they push this right now. I imagine that she's buying her time until after the next election or at least until the gun buying hype calms down before she strikes.

I seriously doubt this is a game on the Dems part.

If anything, this would be an excellent political moment to "do something", with all the issues Mexico is having.

They saw the last ban failed, the Dems were removed from office, more people own black rifles than ever before, and they are wisely steering clear of the issue.

Your position fails to consider the Democrats strong dedication to their single-minded purpose of disarming every American. This has been one of their basic tenants for longer than any of us has walked the earth.

They aren't going to "steer clear of this issue" for long. They are simply finding the best way to accomplish their goal without receiving to much backlash. In fact, I would be very surprised if they haven't put together an in depth strategic calendar for accomplishing their goals within the next 2 - 4 years.

Most of the Democrats in the House and Senate are pro-gun, so I don't see how its an issue.
