Lawyer up, know the laws and hope you don't get screwed. I don't know what else to say.
I bet the "judge" that railroaded him has a concealed permit.

Moral #1 : Avoid New Jersey at all costs. No job offer/woman/whatever could ever entice me to move there, or even visit.
Moral #2 : See Moral number 1. Learn it, live it, love it.
It's going to be a drop in the bucket compared to what the future holds for us all.

Don't joke yourself, we just got some wonderful laws like that here. Take the mag ban for example, if you die i am pretty sure anyone in your house just became a criminal and i am also pretty sure it would be 1 charge per magazine that holds over 15 rounds. Just because we think it will not be enforced does not mean it will be like that in 10 years or even tomorrow if the perfect shit storm happened.

The future's here. Depending on what happens ballot wise, on amend 66, will tell how hard the liberal winds, do or do not blow in CO.
Then there's 2014. Will the shutdown have a back lash against any R? Will 3rd party candidates make or break anyone running?

This should be required reading for everyone that thinks Bloomberg's agenda is "no big deal".
Very similar laws in effect in New York and Illinois. Zero tolerance, no plea bargaining, guaranteed conviction, no viable provision for having the conviction appealed/overturned/expunged. If you are arrested for selling narcotics or burglarizing homes you get a slap on the wrist, but someone with a clean record and an unlicensed handgun in their luggage has the book thrown at them. Instead of modifying the laws to make them more reasonable and flexible they've gotten a lot stricter.
Simply another facet of the overall plan: make guns represent evil incarnate and blindly punish those who would dare to own such a thing.

Colorado's bad enough now. I can't even begin to imagine living in a state like NJ, NY or CA.

You can't use the term REASONABLE. That's the liberal's new word and only they get to define it.

Reasonable is in Websters and anyone can use it.
UNREASONABLE is convicting someone with a clean record and zero criminal intent of a FELONY and sending them to prison simply for having an unloaded handgun in their luggage. That is an unconstitutional law and cruel & unusual punishment far out of proportion to the offense. Even most Liberals I've spoken to agree on that point.

Donated, guys this could be any of us. What this poor guy is going through is absurd, but that's that liberal mentality for you. There are people (that I know, unfortunately.) That belive a guy is unfit to raise kids if he owns a gun. If you can even swing 8 bucks it will help, this guy can have visitation rights by Christmas!

"Guns" are the new "drugs"! Just replace what the DEA has done in the last 20 years with 'guns' and you can see what's here and that there's more to come!! All part of the plan, unfortunately.

One side-effect of such 'policies', and I won't call it an unintended side-effect, because 'they' know darn well what will happen... Anyway, one outcome of such stringent policies is that some people may determine they might as well act like a criminal since doing innocent things turns them into criminals. I'm not talking about people going out and doing stupid, crazy, life-threatening anarchy, but in attitudes and behaviors that represent a form of "opposition to tyranny", a form of subtle revolution, if you will...
History shows this to be true.
Oh, and just wait til the 'thought police' start showing up... "Mr. Jones, you actually believe that it's OK for you to potentially own that and still be a parent? Well, I'm sorry, your belief only shows how unfit you truly are. Come with us..."

Though I never went to prison, this reminds me of my bogus protective order ordeal. (have told my story here before)
DO NOT GET A PROTECTION (RESTRAINING) ORDER FILED AGAINST YOU
By the letter of the law,
You can not own any guns, bows, swords, bullets, arrows, ...
You can not touch any of the above at any time (unless you are LE, and only in the course of your LE duties).
You can not be in close proximity to any of the above. No hunting camps, or range days, even if you are not shooting.
You will likely have supervised visitation with your children.
You may lose your security clearance and your job.
You may have trouble finding anyone to hire you.
You will be looked at and treated as a wife beater and/or child molester by almost every stranger who finds you have an order.
DO NOT GET A PROTECTION (RESTRAINING) ORDER FILED AGAINST YOU
All it takes is her word, true or untrue, to get a 14 day temporary order.
If it becomes a permanent order, it is for life.
You can not petition to have it removed for a minimum of 4 years. If you lose, you wait another 4 years.

Donated. This scenario is absolutely scary. I once promised to myself that I'd never visit these insanely anti-gun states. Recent events show that Colorado isn't far behind...
