Seen this floating around and found it interesting. O no; the foodies are going to be cut!! What about the phone??? Obama phone lady did't see this one coming:

http://fox13now.com/2013/10/14/utah-families-on-food-stamps-could-be-cut-off-soon/

States across the country are being told to stop the supplemental nutrition assistance program for the month of November, pending further notice.
That’s according to a letter from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Fox 13 obtained a copy from the Crossroads Urban Center in downtown Salt Lake City. Crossroads says if Utah families don’t get food stamps, they’ll turn to the local food pantries, which are already strapped due to the government shutdown. Homeless people Fox 13 talked to, some who use SNAP, say losing food stamps would mean going hungry.

I'm all for helping people get back on there feet but most people on food stamps should have been cut off long before this. Wellfare and food stamps are not a career.

Uh-oh, maybe they'll have to *gasp* go out and find a job!

On a serious note, I really wouldn't want to see a nationwide riot due to this. The couple places it hit a few days ago seemed bad enough.

The whole system needs an overhaul. It has become a way of life with all the welfare programs. that needs to change.

Is everyone missing the fact of the riots that happened? What do you think will happen on a national scale? Lots of people on food stamps now a days- 50+million and set to double....

Take a look at the "EBT Card with no limit" thread. This is mentioned in there, along with some other related info. These are crazy times...

Do we have a confirmation of if this letter is real or not? I'm very skeptical.

I think it is real. But they will work a "sealed" deal in Congress and we really won't know WTF they agreed upon! Health Care ACT is really a tax, and I bet they raise taxes AND interest rates! They will still fund foodstamps,or kiss their political futures goodbye.

So much truth in this post: generations on welfare and "assistance", procreation (with no father listed on the birth certificate) in order to increase benefits,
freebies to those who won't or can't make their own way.

Not to mention a study that showed a families who worked were worse off than welfare recipients with the same family make up.
Check this out:

What are some of the "solutions" you can think of that would make a difference?

One more thing being missed.

Look at the narrative the media has created on blame. Look at their feedback loop polling. If/when millions of people suffer, who will get that blame?

This is why you will see Republicans start to fold like wet noodles. They can't demand fiscal accountability (something which modern Americans don't value) that causes hardship (something people care a lot about).

The solutions is obivously to get Americans back to work, even if they have to do jobs they don't want to do. But that's not in Obama's plan... The next big push will be immigration to fill that void and buy more votes. To get there, Dems must completely villify and marginalize the opposition.

Liberal ideas are failing and we see undisputed evidence of that; economy, healthcare, education, foreign relations, etc... They can't afford to have anyone pointing this out.

I just love one of the commenters saying she was on food stamps because she couldn't afford to put a roof over her daughters head AND feed her. She then states she's 7 months pregnant and no one will hire her. Seriously?? She is whats wrong with the system. Kinda like me saying I need food stamps then going out and buying an Aston Martin DB9.

So much win right here... "I cannot afford to feed the child I currently have, so I'll just have another and dig this hole a little deeper."[facepalm]
The problem is that the powers that be have somehow decided to make welfare and other "assistance" programs too comfortable. CO welfare pays equal to $10-12/hr average at the bottom- I could survive on that in a pretty nice area of Lakewood- these people freaking THRIVE on that and would be making more off welfare than any job where you have to as "would you like fries with that?" That's the problem with this vicious cycle- no incentive to get off that gravy train if you're taking a pay cut.

My first gut instincts: Restrict welfare to 3 months per five year period, and/or turn welfare into a work system (that is, people actually have to work, say, picking up trash in order to get benefits).

Or, hell, if you want benefits without working, give it to them if they stand in a public square with a sign stating in bold letters "I am on welfare." People would cry "But that'll humiliate people!" That's the point! It should not be a point of pride to be on welfare!

I just moved back from GA, there is nothing anybody here could have said to prepare me for the welfare system abuse I saw down there.

At least 2 of my wife's coworkers picked up drug habits when they found out just how well the system paid if they had another kid.

One of them went to bars at random to find someone to impregnate her when her oldest was turning 18. Just so she could maintain her level of "income"

ETA:
I think the easiest fix is to limit benefits to one child. Figure I can't go to my boss and ask for a raise because my wife is pregnant with child 2, 3 or 4. Why should it work for the govt dole?

I'm with you guys about the leeches that exist in our present social welfare systems, but I am not entirely sure that makes up the majority.

As I am one for the forest through the trees argument; there is a bigger problem; either purposeful or coincidental...

These metrics are a contradiction to one another...

I'm going out on a limb here to say that any apparent contradictions stem from the means by which the metrics are (and have been) calculated. I know, for example, that the calculations used to derive unemployment rates, the GDP and some other inflation/cost figures have changed over the years, most recently with the latest administration (go figure).

The biggest Democrat voting block in the country is the government itself, between fed, state and local workers there's 22 million people. Add their spouses and now your up to 40 million (they want the 20K a year healthcare plan and million dollar retirement package to). Then you have retired gov workers, how many there are is the most guarded national security secret in the country (GM has 4 retiriee's for every one worker). A extremly conservative guess would be one retiree for every current worker, plus spouses would give you another 40 million people.

That's ATLEAST 80 million people who know voting Democrat is the best way to keep their "Set for Life" arrangement. Not trying to knock Gov workers, have tons a family and friends that are in the Gov. Just saying once you get in your hands are forced to vote Dem. Know a bunch of conservative who work for the Gov, talk the same talk as most conservative but come voting time they pull the Dem lever to protect the most important thing to them..... the retirement package.

80 million is not quite the majority in this country, to get them over the top a strong welfare system is needed for the extra Dem votes to achive majority.

The real divide in this country is those pay and those who live off these payments, everything else is just a distraction.

The Government plus the welfare people are the new majority in this country.

I worked at a grocery store for a while. Most of the customers using SNAP cards loaded up on energy drinks, candy, and pastries. Then there were the guys with multiple cards from different states . . . and the pimps and gangtas loading up their carts with hundreds of dollars worth of steaks and frozen shrimp who say "there's still money left on this card" and get another few bags of shrimp. System needs a major overhaul. You should be able to purchase vitamin enriched protein loaf, sliced bread, and jugs of water . . . not candy and Red Bull.

I don't think you should be allowed to buy food in regular grocery stores if you're on government assistance. They need to have Welfare Food Distribution Centers that hand out quality, nutritious, inexpensive foodstuffs to people that absolutely need it. And further these people should be tested for drugs, tobacco and alcohol use (if you can afford to do drugs, smoke or drink, you can afford to pay your own way).

It frustrates the hell out of me when my wife and I go out of our way to buy store brands to save money and nutritious foods for our health and we end up in line behind some welfare queen spending more than she has too buying name brand foods and junk food and then goes and gets into a new Escalade in the parking lot. If we MUST feed people with tax dollars we should have two criteria by which all the decisions are made 1) Is this the most economical option for this type of food? and 2) Is this junk?

“I am for doing good to the poor, but...I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. I observed...that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer.”

Wait a tick! Wouldn't this just be allowing nature to do what it intended... what some would call "Darwinism" or otherwise known as "Survival of the fittest"? Aside from riots and mass panic- I see no problem with putting those (metaphorically) who should know how to swim by now in the deep end and seeing if they really can swim on their own.

Ronin, I agree with this comment wholeheartedly (to an extent). Unfortunately the paradigm shift occurred sometime in the latter last century where the definition of "less fortunate" was redefined. It is no longer physical and/or mental abilities; it is social/economic status, race, sexuality, etc, etc, etc. And those are the leeches that truly capture our attention in debates like these.

That issue aside; there is still a cause as to why those who were never on the doles before are on it now.

One thing I've noticed is that most gang members and drug dealers are on public assistance or directly benefiting from it in some way. "Welfare Queen" was a phrase that was popular during the Reagan administration and denoted someone who committed fraud by having multiple welfare accounts under different names, but that's actually quite rare. Welfare recipients getting free rent, health care, and food seen driving around in $50K SUVs paid for with drug money are more common. Often it is a "gift" from a boyfriend or family member who sells cocaine or heroin by the ounce has more cash than they know what to do with.

State and local Employees = 19,361,395
Fed Employees = 4,372,814

The Fed Employee # counts the military witch gets a lot of Republican votes. The Fed Employee # does not account for the CIA, NSA, DIA and USPS.
As far as the retiree # goes yes thats a guess though a very conservative guess. How many gov retirees there are is a top secret classified information. Many government employess retire in their 50's so using the ratio of retired vs working of 1 to 1 is extremely conservative.

A couple weeks ago someone posted a link showing how much Colorado Fire Fighters Union donated to the Dem and Rep parties... Dem's a bunch, Rep $0.00. I bet if you looked at the teachers union, Police union or any other Gov union you'll see the same thing. I've never seen a FF, PD or teacher out protesting the union to give their money to the Rep Party. Point being the Dem party gets a extremley high percentage of the vote for Gov workers.

Here's the number that really scares the shit out of me.....Just between Gov workers, retirees, and spouses that's more than enough votes to win a presidential election.
Remember... BHO got a total vote count in 2012 of 58,720,700.
