OK, so we are setting up to do High Pressure Test for the AR-15 bolt. I've searched for a jig, and how the other guys do it but found nothing; my googlefu' is off I guess. My engineer is going to design a way so I can test these suckers in an economical way; a jig of some sort. We have a good idea of how we are going to do it; but I am looking to see if anyone knows of a solid, tried, and true method that is used.

Anyone?

Edit; I just seen this [mlp] really!? Da'am dems demanding equality here too??? [ROFL1]

I think it is called "proof testing", over pressure round is fired, if the gun don't blow! Passes! I think they put the gun in a armored barrel and fire it.

OK, thank for the reply. Not exactly what I am looking for so let me try the question again; Does anyone know of a Jig for how I can "Proof test", HPT or what ever you want to call it? I know the procedure, round needed, etc.

I need a jig if one is known, so I can forgo guessing, trial and error in making one. I am not testing the entire rifle; I am only testing the Bolt, prior to MPI test.

Thanks! [Beer]

Edit: there is some good info in that article! The name of the association here in the USA will get a call tomorrow to see if they can help. Thanks Bushmasterboy!

You stirred up my curiosity.
This information is about pressure testing using a proof load cartridge. I think. So I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for-
"4.7.4 High-pressure resistance test. This test shall be performed during individual carbine testing in accordance with TABLE III, using a fixture for holding the bolt and barrel assembly per drawing 11837944."
That is part way down the page from-
http://www.m4carbine.net/printthread.php?t=50559

I couldn't find the "drawing 11837944" at any free webb sites. It may be available at some pay sites or at a government site. If you do a search for that drawing number you get almost only hits for the test manual that is referred to at the above webb site.

I kinda remember see a youtube video of a the military firing a M16 full auto until it melted down. I couldn't find it just now and I doubt that would be the fixture you're looking for.

I hope you find what you need.

Just get the big round "Smith" from "American Guns" to do it.
Remember the episode where they built a M77 Ruger for the wounded vet and he test fired it?
He held the barreled action in his bare hands and "proofed" it in a bullet trap.

Discussion of a few methods are listed here. No equipment for sale, though.

Here is a device for sale, but appears to be a bit destructive for a singe rifle.
