Today, we noticed a HUGE number of out of State hunters heading North out of Trinidad. Was also a long line of those folks at our local Walmart buying their hunting licenses and their hunting ammo there too. If you have to go outdoors, better be wearing those orange vests . . [fudd]
Talking to my local FFL today and he said out of state license sales are down 40%. any truth to that? I looked on DOW website but didn't see anything.
no idea about the out of state licenses but I can tell you we didn't see, hear or smell any Elk this year, no gunshots even, it sounded like Bow season, should be interesting to see how this years harvest comes out, been a long time since I've been this disappointed in our hunting trip.
Highlight of our trip was finding two sets of tracks in fresh snow in a five day trip...

Guess I'll be taking the antler hats off the dogs.

Not a bad idea from mid Sept on.
Neighbor got at least one and co-worker got a cow opening morning. I'll have to follow-up with my co-worker to see if he got to use his bull tag as well.
Work up in silverthorn, there are a ton of hunters up there as well.
Spoke with the neighbor. Their party of 5 all got elk. My BiL also got a cow. Seems like folks are filling their freezers.

With our recent new gun related laws, I wonder how much those laws are really causing fewer hunters to hunt and spend their money in Colorado. Many hunters and regular vacationers had threatened to quit hunting and visiting here due to those new restrictions. With all the wild fire and flood damage costs, sure looks like your super Governor should have disobeyed his orders from his dingbat billionaire playboy twin, Mayor Bloomberg. These boys are both considered, by normal people, to be just piles of [pileoshit]
The government shutdown also had some hunters confused about whether or not the National Forest land was open.
my buddy got back and their group of 5-6 got nada. one guy passed up a small 3x3. and another missed.

When I got into my area yesterday, there was only one other vehicle. I hiked around for a couple hours and glassed, but I only saw does that were on the property. When I left, I counted 16 other hunters. For a half section of land, that is a lot of people, all had CO license plates. I hope it won't be so busy during the week.
