No joke. I'd be eating a nice size NY Strip every night for with that kind of grocery budget.

From some of the comments I've read, coming from other leaches that likely know something about food stamps, she would need to have 3 children to qualify for that amount.

NEWSFLASH, can't pay to feed your kids, DON'T HAVE MORE!

The wife and I really want another child soon, but we aren't really in a position financially to do so. Guess that means we should just do it anyway and let ya'll foot the bill? Nah we wouldn't do that to you guys, we will work hard and promote at our jobs so we can foot the bill ourselves.

We're in the same situation. We would have liked to kick another one out by now but it just hasn't made financial sense yet.

We would, because that is what hard working responsible folks do, but I'm afraid the stresses of being any further strapped for cash, wouldn't be good for the family. Now if I had an extra $1100 a month, things would be different....

...and then we get to hear this oft repeated sentiment that "the children are our future". That's a pretty bleak future.

...and it is Chickasha. The old-timers in Tulsa don't speak of it in high regard.

Was at the thrift shop today and the two ladies in line in front of me were talking about how they had been shopping ALL day. The one lady said they are acting like they could spend money like that, but they couldn't because they were both unemployed. They had an entire cart full of stuff. The one lady I saw didn't spend much ($25), but when you are unemployed, I'm not sure that decorative pillows and fake plants are things worth spending money on.

Don't want to rock the boat, but if you have a kid, you'll find a way.

I agree with this, but everyones situation is unique I guess. We had my little girl (who turns 1 today :)) when I was enemployed. We DECIDED to have a kid at that time - it didn't just happen - and just find a way to make it work, even though we have 2 others already. It was our plan to have one in 2012 and we stuck with it. And yes, she was conceived when I was unemployed.

We never took one penny of food stamps even though I'm sure we could have gotten some if we apllied. It's amazing how you find ways to earn some cash honestly when you really need it.

Read some of her other posts as well. Pretty classy I tell you. Never seen anything decent come from that town either. For some odd reason in Oklahoma, you get clusters of real psycho idiots that tend to gravitate towards certain towns. Chickasha is one of them, Coweta was another. She's crying over a "pay cut" in food stamps. How much of a cut did we all take from Obama's tax hike this year that she likely supported, because it would take more money from the rich?

You're most likely dead on correct. She's blowing it on junk, plain and simple. If something happens and you have to get on stamps(things do happen) then so be it. Doesn't mean you should be buying the kids pop. Let them drink tapwater, or make some lemonade, that's cheap. Her freezer is probably full of frozen dinners, and the stove is only used to cook meth.

Ronin13
10-20-2013, 09:45
i didnt include the fact that my wife usually buys me $50-200 worth of ammo a month at the store. That would be included in that total as well, since she buys it all between sams and walmart.

and my wife usually buys extra toilet paper and at least a few other long term storage items. that lady is only buying pop, energy drinks, candy, frozen food or something. thats alot of money, we would all be fat and still have money left over.
You also have to factor in that you're paying for brand names too- she probably doesn't even look in the direction of generic brands... and Walmart's generic brand American cheese is 10x better than Kraft and costs 1/3 less!

I work at a grocery store here... And the stuff that people buy on food stamps never ceases to amaze me.

I had a girl the other day come in and use her food stamps to buy a lollipop and a red bull.

Then there are those who have figured out that if you purchase an $18 bottle of syrup, but don't bring in your receipt, then you can get the cash and go next door to the liquor store and get what you want.... Of course, they have learned that doesn't fly with me when I'm at the service desk, and just come back later when I am not there. I know who uses food stamps to buy ALL of their stuff, so I refuse to refund anything for them unless they have their food stamp card to put it back on...

I've been blessed to have never needed any kind of assistance. The one time I lost a job due to nothing of my doing, I found a better job within 2 weeks. One of my core values, instilled by my parents, is that you bust your ass to do for yourself.

Early in my adult life, when I had my first apartment after college and working an hourly job, I would at times have enough money to only eat once a day. In better times, I might be able to afford to buy a 1 lb. chub of ground beef (you know, the best parts they don't want to show you in clear plastic). The guy in front of me in line at the grocery checkout with food stamps? A-1 sauce, steak, steak, steak, steak..... It burns me up to think this low-life was buying a cart full of steaks on the taxpayers' dime, and didn't have the common decency to not ruin it with A-1.

Myssa
10-21-2013, 21:17
Another tale from the grocery store... We had a guy come through the check out with 2 overflowing carts full (including the bottoms of the baskets...). He tells my manager to "stop around $600". My manager informs him that he's not going to make it. So the guy is sorting through his cart trying to decide what he deems is "important", and what needs to be put back. He gets down to half a cart of groceries (veggies, cheese, meat) and has "20 dollars" left. He puts back everything in the cart and hands him the 2 packages of oreos, a bag of candy, and 2 bags of chips.

He spent 600 in food stamp money (which is tax exempt btw) and got nothing healthy. (I know because I was bagging it all).

I mean, I am a picky eater and I have a LOT of food allergies (including a lot of fruits and veggies), but even with that in mind, I just couldn't imagine filling TWO entire carts (if we had checked/bagged the rest of the cart, he would have had 3 full carts) with nothing but junk food. I just can't imagine.

I think if you're on any form of government assistance (disability notwithstanding) there should be some rules in place:
Foodstamps-
Only bread, rice, beans, cheese and powdered milk. Steaks and pizza are for people who have JOBS.
Welfare-
Your money will be monitored and only allowed to be spent on basic services like electricity, water, rent, gas and hygiene products. If you're caught buying movies, video games, tobacco, alcohol, stereos, rims, etc. you get a warning- 2 warnings in a 12-month period and you're cut off.
In addition, you will either present a check stub from a job each week or you will report to a "government" job. It may be cleaning the roadways of trash, painting and repairing public housing, whatever we find for you.

Finally, if you are collecting from government assistance, you are no longer allowed to vote due to a conflict of interest, and drug testing is mandatory. Wanna do drugs or vote? Get a job.

I dont care what they buy with their foodstamps if they have to put in work for them. For every hundred dollars they receive they should have to put in a set amount of time cleaning highways, parks, something. Same with disability, unemployment, everything. No matter what your diasability is I am sure we could find something productive for you to do. As soon as you take away the fact that it is free money to these losers I would be willing a lot of them would not be on it.

10-22-2013, 10:15
The rise of single parent homes in the nation is partly what caused the boondoggle we now face. Bluntly, they should figure it out their own selves, maybe by actually having a two-person family. Same for transportation; there is a variety of options for public transit, and if you're taking the government's money (I know, it's really our money, just using the expression), then you should have to give back in some fashion or another, so figure it out yourself!

Most of these people are also getting daycare assistance from the state or feds so I dont feel sorry for them at all. They are the ones who decided to have children it is their problem, just like every other working single parent, why should they be special. That is the problem with this country now, everyone thinks they are something special and deserve the American dream even though they dont want to work for it. The fact that you breath, eat, and poop, does not make you special, it is what you do with your life, and popping out babies like a gum dispenser does not qualify either.

I should not have to give up my American dream that I have been working hard towards to finance someone who has done nothing. A little help is one thing but this is getting ridiculous.

Has anyone here ever lived in a community where working a regular day job is the exception?

When kids and grandchildren only know a world where no one works regularly and the few people who actually have jobs work hard for low wages in seemingly unappreciated "service" jobs, the percentage of productive members of society being produced seems to decline in those circumstances.

Unemployment insurance seems to be a gateway to dependence for many in America. A little help over a long period of time tends to lead to dependence on government assistance. The longer assistance is accepted, the easier it becomes to justify and eventually, many individuals see the assistance as an entitlement. The woman in the OP is just an example. She is far from unusual.

If the cycle isn't broken, the people will revolt when the "bread and circuses" are withheld.

Be safe.
