I have a FA91 presently that I'd like to replace with something similar, but a bit more... refined.

Another aspect is that I have several standard capacity mags for this rifle. I don't want to switch platforms and be stuck with 10 or 15 round magazines (legally anyway).

I hear the PTR91 is pretty solid, as are the FAL copies from DSA.

Any other suggestions?

Get the PTR. Recoil operated and will eat any ammo. Recoil is straight line similar to an AR, mags are cheap and accuracy is good.
It will make your alumabomb FA91 seem so much.....less refined.

Given your requirements on the magazine issue the PTR or HK91 are your only choices.

I glossed over that the OP wanted to keep his same mags.. So like BP said you are stuck with a real HK91 or a clone like a PTR.. I have a PTR and a real genuine HK91 and the real HK91 is hands down a better shooter (comfort, accuracy, problems, weight, etc.) than the PTR, shooting between the two is like night and day. If you can afford one get a real HK91 you wont be disappointed.

Got my PTR91 this evening. It's funny, this is the second time that I've posted about wanting to get something and I get a PM out of the blue "hey, I just happen to have..."

There's a substantial difference between the PTR91 and the FA91. Of course, I'd expect that with the PTR running 2 - 3 times the cost of the FA91!

Battle rifle = FAL

Forget DSA.. build your own or look for a StG built on an Imbel receiver or an Imbel kit built on an Imbel receiver.

sent from a soup can and some string..

Argentine FN49.
I have a Luxemburg one in '06 and it's a tack driver-heavy but accurate and will chew anything you give it.
So I would imagine the .308 one will do just as well.

Now it is official. [LOL]
Argentine FN49 And YOU have to bring up the 49. I missed the boat on that one years ago. [Bang]

I missed out on some of the realy nice ones years ago when Numrich Arms had their gunstore-they had racks of them in different calibers, but I was too busy pulling out the Garands they had at the time.
Glad I found this one when I got out here.I'll let you shoot it next time we go out to the range :)

Another option for the OP is a Vepr in .308

Ak reliability and not too drastically priced.

Yesterday I was shooting an SR9 T (HK). It's good for 1 moa, no problem. The FA 91 that I'm familiar with can shoot 1.5 moa at best and doesn't have the free floated barrel. I really like the HK but both these rifles chew up brass on the first firing.
