I'm getting gouged on my current policy. I have 3 cars and run BI: $50/100K; PD: $100K; then Col and Comp w/ $500 deductibles. No rental car but towing.
I just did a few of the online tools and can almost reduce my premiums about 50% with another company.
Poll time and tell me about esurance, GEICO, Progressive and any other companies.

Progressive
Pros: Cheap as hell
Customer service doesn't suck
Cons: Owned and run by a George Soros mini-me so part of your premiums are going toward the advancement of international Marxist dictatorship.
Call John Pigman (his real name) at American National, 3-790-9696. They've treated me pretty well so far.

I have Allstate but I'm partial to them because I'm also an agent for Allstate. :) I'm happy to run quotes for anyone interested or try to help you understand rates and other fun insurance things.

My agent... he's saved me a good chunk of money, and i have someone to yell at when something does not go right. Plus he's on here and is pro 2A.
I switched my home and auto after they raised my rates almost 50%, right now i pay less for 3 cars (94 4runner, 2011 Forester, and 2013 Pilot) than i did before with travelers with just two vehicles. Plus Dave_L contacted me about adding the coverage after the tread where a members sister was hit with an uninsured motorist. (https://www.ar-15.co/threads/113791-Insurance-question-(car-accident)?highlight=uninsured+motorist)
Granted he was not the cheapest, but I will pay more for a higher level or service. I got a birthday gift card in the mail, which i never received with travelers.

I need to start looking for a new company. I've been with State Farm for 10 years simply because that's who my dad was with.

Allstate - Probably going to look at switching to USAA. Have been with Allstate since 1987 but feel we're getting screwed the past couple of years.

Allstate raised my premiums by 20% per year. Agent was furious when I closed my policy and threw me out of his office! Dave Knapp in Pueblo West was incredibly rude! USAA is way cheaper for me than anybody else and hasn't given me any huge premium increases in the last few years. I guess it helps to be ex military.
Who do you have now

I have been a customer with AMFAM for 13 years. Never had a problem with them, they are average in price, but it tried to shop around a year ago and couldn't find cheaper as a new customer. They also insure my house and I get a big discount because of this.

Started with USAA. Switched to a small company for a year but switched back to USAA in 2011. Besides auto, I have renter and high value with them. Plus all the other services.
I have Safeco and pay total of $751 per year for full coverage on 3 vehicles. It was less when I had my house insurance with them but they cancelled me because of my dobie.

That is terrible. Please don't let that leave a bad taste in your mouth about ALL of Allstate. Rates are tricky because it's usually a result of claims paid out, projected claims, etc. However, the agents job is to talk to you about it, explain ways to offset rate changes, and be the utmost professional when doing it.

Country financial. Just made the switch. Better coverages for home and auto and literally half the price. Which was my fault for over paying. Contact me my agent)which is a great friend) works Denver metro area and north.

I just figured it was corporate greed. This was the time my brand new house lost 30% of its value. Not to mention the agent was truly an ahole to me...he didn't even try to negotiate or offer any options. I explained his attitude to your corporate HQ, you really think they gave a damn?

full disclosure--I'm with USAA. Been with them since they gave me my first auto loan in '97. I also worked for them for about 10 months as a claims adjuster.
I have everything with them except my home loan and home insurance.
I've been lazy in not looking around due to the drama of life. Was talking with a friend about it and realized I'm getting gouged.
If you can get USAA and don't, you might want to check them out.
I have Farmers.

I'd like to think so but corporate can be corporate sometimes. Its too bad agents are like that because rates do fluctuate and being a jerk will insure that the people never call them again. Do the best job you can, all the time, and people will give you another when their new policy spikes. We've even sent gift cards to long term clients if they cancel with us as a way of saying thank you. It's just the right thing to do after long term support.

Consumer Reports says... Top 5:
USAA
NJM
Amica
Auto-Owners Insurance Group
Erie Insurance Group
Bottom 5:
Metlife
Allstate
Progressive
Farmers
Mapfre
Most other consumer ratings companies show USAA and Amica as the only 2 good choices with all the other companies in the toilet. Remember folks, anecdotes isn't data until you've got thousands of 'em.

Ive had State Farm forever. They auto renew my policy and never run my record because I havent made a claim in many many years. A friend of mine became an independent insurance agent and ran me among all the carriers to try and save me some money. With my driving record having 3 speeding tickets against me even State farm should be charging me more I cant afford to switch!

I've great luck with Farmers. I have all my vehicles, house and fire insurance through them. And to top it off. About 5 -6 years ago the west side of my roof was collapsing in. $19,000 claim. I paid $2,500 out of pocket. They never raised any of my policies a single dime!!

Two vehicles with Progressive for about 10 years, never had a claim...seems reasonable cost wise.
Two other vehicles and the house with Farm Bureau, they aren't that bad either it seems...again, no car claims, but we've had a few house claims. No complaints with those guys either.
I'll add also that Farm Bureau was the only company that would insure my ambulance. Nobody else would cover it...weight and some other crap about being a cut-away chassis blah blah.
Zip Code, claims, education level, credit rating, value of insured vehicles, marital status, age and many other factors go into the rate. Some carriers give more discounts for certain things than others. Person A may get a better rate from one company, person B from a different.
Last I checked, with all my discounts for degrees, professional license, accident free, etc. I had pretty decent rates.

There's something odd going on if you have access to USAA and don't use it. Back when I had a landline, every time an insurance company called me they would give up as soon as they found out I had USAA. That says something incredible. Beyond the prices, the company runs like a club rather than someone trying to make a profit off you. They've even told me when I was better off going to another company (Progressive) for my motorcycle coverage. The agent straight up told me that it wasn't their strong suit and they only offered it because some customers insisted on having everything go through them for the convenience of having a single company to deal with.

Have had USAA since i started driving 10 years ago. Great rates never had a problem. When the garbage man ran into my old car and totaled it, it got a check in the mail from USAA the next day for what the car was worth! Plus depending on the year I always enjoy that check that comes in the mail!
Progressive is my current insurer, but have left a bad taste in my mouth the past couple months. My agent was basically non-existent during my latest claim, except for where they told me to contact the other insurance company to get a check for my expenses. When I wrote to complain about my treatment, I was told I'd hear back within 2 business days. That was 22 days ago, still waiting on a reply. My job recently sent me a letter to remind me I can get auto insurance through them at a discount. Going to look into that this weekend.

I always like dealing with USAA as a company.
How come Fred Loya isn't on the list?

Por que?
Come on holmes, you know why.
Here's the low down on insurance. MOST major companies operate the same. They all cover the same basic stuff (some minor differences here and there). One company will make a change, the others will follow suit in some form shortly after. Rates go up, rates go down. Ive had people call from every major company looking to switch because something didnt go right. Does that mean every company sucks? No. It means someone bought their policy, stuck it in a drawer and never even glanced ay it besides the price. No matter what company you pick, make it a habit to have an annual insurance review. Life changes a lot each year but people forget to let their insurance keep up. Maybe the insurance world has changed and there are some changes you should make. Create a relationship with your agent. At the end of the day, thats what makes the difference. IF something happens, do you want to be "customer 65825" or "Hi Bob, what can I do for you?". 30-60 minutes a year with your agent can make a big difference.

Not to be a giant dick, but why should this make any difference to the service you receive for the product you payed for? Are you saying that I'd get some kind of deal if I called my 1-800 # once a month and said "Hi"?

No, the agent cant "make you a deal". But they can give you more than the generic "one size fits all" insurance policy. That helps ensure you're getting a custom fit policy and you know what your policy covers before you have a claim. Its a simple suggestion from someome thats been in the business for 11+ years. Do what you want with it.

I'm pretty curious about this. You're with USAA but think you're getting gouged? Is it on something other than motorcycle insurance? (BTW, I see they have now struck up a relationship with Progressive to offer motorcycle insurance but keep the billing through USAA.) Have you talked with someone at USAA? I bet a discussion with an agent at their Kelly Johnson facility would be illuminating -- either in terms of changing your coverage or showing the difference between the policies.
I put other, with a caveat that I'm currently with George Soros' Progressive, but come the 1st I'm switching to Travelers. They just started a new auto program that has way better coverage (plus I think they're a far superior company- my dad's agency has represented them since 1950) and is less expensive. From my previous job as an agent, I've found that USAA doesn't always have the best rates, then again auto insurance uses 1,000,000's of factors to determine a rate, so someone with the same exact car, age, driving record and credit score could have a very different rate than you. Also the thing that gets under my skin is the fact that people now-a-days go primarily for price and in the event of an accident run the risk of being screwed royally because they don't have adequate coverage. I'd rather pay a hundred bucks a year more for better coverage. But by switching to Travelers I'm saving $100/yr and getting way better coverage- including glass, which my Progressive policy didn't have.

That's my main problem. As soon as I am out of college, it's "goodbye progressive".
Not to be a giant dick, but why should this make any difference to the service you receive for the product you payed for? Are you saying that I'd get some kind of deal if I called my 1-800 # once a month and said "Hi"?
Because most people have zero idea what they are even paying for. They just shop price. When the agent tries to explain the coverage they just repond with "Yeah yeah, so it's how much?" They pay the money and leave. The agent might hear from them next if they have a claim. You sit down with an agent and get an idea of what is out there, and what you want, and everyone is betrer off.
Agents CAN get discounts to write a policy, but they sure aren't going to stick their neck out for some no name that is looking for bottom dollar and changes companies every year.

State Farm here for ~+30 years.
Family history with state farm, just kept buying their insurance. We currently have a great agent, to many details to type up here, but they treat us well. I've had misc. claims for things and rates never change. Agent explains things very well and calls us for coverage checkups.
4 cars, camper, house policies. Cheaper than I can get anywhere else, mainly because of no major accidents/tickets/claims.
State Farm does have the Accident Forgiveness like other companies, they just don't advertise it.

Similar situation with State Farm. Our family agent has been very good to us, unfortunately he's retiring after 35 years with the company. I found a new agent up here in Thornton, and he's pretty good also, pro 2a to boot!
Thought about having my LLC buy a truck. My insurance rates would be crazy though. Almost doubles my current rates.

Why? Because it would be insured commercially? I'd say that you don't HAVE to insure it commercially, but I'd be giving you bad advise if I did. Another example of how a good relationship with a good agent will benefit you.

Fair enough. I guess I just don't have any complicated insurance needs. I have two old vehicles...no big conference needed. I do go over all of the details myself though. I guess many folks don't want to bother and want someone to explain it to them instead.
I've never had auto insurance with anyone but USAA (qualified through my Dad when I was a kid; later by myself).
For insurance, they're great. I even get a small rebate.
I'll never give them another home loan, however.
