I have a friend that is wanting to get into IDPA and USPSA match shooting and was wondering if the March 14th IDPA match will be having a new shooter training class before the match?

Yes, they are. You can visit the site, but the schedule shown is:

0700 Setup -- Don't hesitate to try out this portion of the program, too.
0800 Match Safety Course
0915 Shooter's Meeting
0930 Match Start

This will be my very first IDPA match (observing only...I don't have a suitable weapon right now). Look forward to meeting everyone.

"observing only...I don't have a suitable weapon right now"

Care to elaborate a little more?
You should have seen what I started shooting with. :)

Yes we will have a new shooter class before this match.

I keep seeing you say this. I've got a CZ 75B that you could use (you'd have to provide the ammo) BUT, I've been really flaky lately, so I don't want to offer it to you, in case I don't show up.

I'll clarify. I have an M1911 that was builit probably in 1920 or so. I've owned it since 1968. It shoots as well as I do, but I don't have a holster for it, and it has the original turn-of-the-century sights. I can't use that setup (holster is important accessory)

I'm not whining...just saying I'm not ready to shoot.

I'll bring several hundred rounds of factory .45 and am not above borrowing...so long as we meet and I don't seem like a 'tard to the lender. I don't got no 9mm. If folks sell ammo at the match, okay, another story.

Bongo Boy - If your weapon is safe to shoot, then by all means go get yourself a holster. The FRIDPA is a little forgiving on the holster requirements. If it safely retains the weapon, and covers the trigger completely, you should be good to go. An Uncle Mikes nylon, or Desantis is fine, both available at just about any sporting goods store that sells firearms (Bass Pro, Gander Mountain, Big 5, Sportsman's Warehouse, most gun shops...). The only thing that I recommend is the ability to shoot 31 rounds (READ - sufficient extra mags, at least 2 and someone will reload them for you while you are going through the stage so you can keep going).

I am still in the recovery stage of back surgery, and twisting, leaning, running, well, any sort of sudden movements are still not a good idea. I am either going to come up to assist as score keeper, or opt out and go do some rifle shooting.

Good thing I brought this up, as I do have an extra gun, but do NOT have a holster for it. Good info guys.

Okay I'll stop finding excuses. I can certainly get a 1911 holster since I'll probably always have a 1911, even if it's not this one.

Ok, here is another question. Since I pretty much only shoot USPSA matches in the Limited class, can I still shoot the IDPA match with my USPSA gear and gun? Can I be put in an outlaw class or not scored? I don't want to change up all my gear to shoot one IDPA match, but I also don't want to jam up the other IDPA shooters that have all the stuff setup the way it should be.

My main goal of the match is to get my friend there to take the new shooter training class and participate in a match. This IDPA match will be good for his first match. If I can't shoot due to my equipment then it is what it is I guess.

Have you read the IDPA rules from the IDPA website? Some of your equipment may cross over with no issue, and depending on how tricked out your gun is...Yeah you may end up in the outlaw class.

Best to show up for the new shooters meeting and they will go over all that and answer any questions for you.

Help me with set up and you can shoot outlaw. It's been done before. We won't turn you down.

Sticks> I have read the IDPA rule book and my Limited pistol with its current modifications does not fit in any of the classes. That and I don't have my mags setup on my belt at or behind the hip, and I don't want to change them just for this one match.

wfwsorge> That sounds like a great plan. I have no problem with pitching in to help. I will get there early and help setup. Mind if I drag another Limited shooter with me that morning to work as well so he can shoot outlaw with me?

I am bringing a crew of 3 up there and should be there around 7AM. See you all there.

I'm going to try and be there around 7 am as well. Likely will be just myself.

Absolutely unbelievable...my chihuahua apparently screwed up his leg in the tub while getting his bath, and I have to take him in to the vet in the morning. He can't use his left rear leg at all.

And my holster for the 1911 came in the mail today. Timing is everything.

And it was looking to be such a nice day too.

Gotta work.

Have fun fellas, see you in April.

Gotta work. Have fun fellas, see you in April. You know, each year I find more-and-more that this 'work' crap just seems to get in the way of everything I want to do, and I find it interferes with my carefree, relaxed lifestyle.

I'm sure folks were concerned, so not to worry--the dog is just fine today. The little bastard.

Had a lot of fun today guys. Every single person I asked, "Hey are you from co-ar15.com?" Wasn't!.

Anyway, here is a picture of me trying not to get a DQ.

I had fun shooting with you guys today and really appreciate the FRIDPA crew taking the time to put on a new shooter training class before the match. This was my friends first match and he had a great time. Thanks again to everyone for a great match.

Very good match, great weather, fun stages. Now to wait for the scores and see how bad the target I didn't shoot (didn't even see) hurts me.

Scores have been posted and emailed out. If you did not get them let us know. Thanks for all the help. We had around 60 shooters show up and 16 new shooters. See everyone back next month.

Okay never mind. I didn't get the email, but it's not a big deal because I just pulled the scores off the site.

I can't find something that explain to me what I'm looking at with my score sheet though. Anyone have a link? It seems like I didn't do too bad, MUCH better than I thought I would do. :)

Go to this link. http://www.co-ar15.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3717

It is the FAQ list. On there you will find out how to get on the email list.

Something like 56 shooters, and 16 new shooters. This sounds very positive--still drives me nuts I wasn't one of them. It's encouraging so many were able to make it...I supposed things get better with weather, too.

Hoser, were you there? I kind of expected to run into, but I had no idea there'd be that many people attending.

I was not there. I was at work. Not working mind you, but physically there.

Had to post a picture didn't ya. I was stuck working on/fixing heavy equipment outside Elizabeth all day. Cussing every minute of it. Just close enough to that gun range in Kiowa to hear them shooting.

Hopefully April I can shoot.
