My standard M4 stock has too much play with the buffer tube. I've read you can heat shrink it with boiling water. Has anyone done it?

I haven't heard of trying that. Somehow, I doubt it is going to work. Why not just go with a different stock?

Might just be a matter of getting the correct buffer tube.

Because I'd rather not spend the money.

Fair enough. Not trying to be a "negative nancy", but if the boiling thing doesn't turn out right you might be buying another one anyways.

Good luck. Let me know how it works out if you try it.

If I got lucky I won't spend the extra bucks. Worth risking. [Abused]

Yes, sir. I would definitely be interested in the outcome. Post up the results if you try.

Yeah, I've got a commercial stock on a mil-spec buffer that I've been too lazy to fix so I'm curious to see if this works.

Will get the result by Tuesday.

Boil water, or use a heat gun. Heat the forward lower section of the stock (where it is already crimped) till it gets pliable. I prefer a heat gun as the stock should be on the tube. This way when heated you crimp to tube, resulting in a tighter fit.

I don't have a heat gun, maybe i can try borrow my roommate's hair blower.
Boil water might be my only option, just have to to it slowly can refit many times.

Hair dryers not hot enough. Boiling water method , starts to loose pliability once removed. Then you rush to fit stock - tube. IF you had a propane torch and knew how to use it [not melting the stock] it would work.

I tightened up a loose M$ stock by putting a few wraps of hockey stick tape in strategic locations. Worked like a charm.

But you did get me to wondering if putting a piece of heat shrink PVC tubing on a buffer tube would work...

The other option is epoxy or hot glue the tube .

Good heat gun would have remedied that, real quick. Boiling water is great, if you're making coffee, tea, or pasta. Hair dryer, well i figure the name says it all. Granted low heat temps are good for some gun related items, not a thicker molded plastic.
