View Full Version : Ham guys couple questions
Does anyone have a list of essential to have frequencies for CO and maybe adjacent states?
I have the baofeng uv-5r and programming on the fly is cumbersome and when ever I have tried to I can never get the repeater to talk back I have looked at the yahoo group and followed the instructions kind of at a loss
i also want to try some simplex distance gauging see how far out I can talk if anyone is interested let me know
I'm disappointed you didn't get any answers. I was hoping we had some experienced hams on here.
I've been looking at that very radio. What do you think of it?

Just a couple I refer to.You can look up by state and region and also for agency.
-pick a weekday between 6-9pm
-scroll through the frequencies allotted to 2M until you find one with chatter on it...it won't take too long.
-discuss your local weather/new tires/weather/dishwasher/weather/contractor/weather/mechanic/weather/grocery store/weather/hardware store/weather/Etc. to your hearts content.
I convinced my wife to get her license so I didn't have to discuss the above topics with complete strangers.

I wonder what the weather is like in the area of the person I am talking to. Do you think talking about the weather would be a good topic?

From what I've heard, it's the single most important topic on amateur radio, be it local 2M or HF. -there are reasons I tie flies instead of chew rag on radio.

Well, a lot of Females are turned off by Ham Radio, as the hams typically talk "Ham Radio" instead of things like weather and about themselves or other topics.
Today though, I tend not to talk about anything too personal, as someone might be listening that I don't want to know these things about me. Also talking about not being at home, going on a trip and such, will let someone know that my house is free game to theft at that time.
All of the frequencies I listen to (2m 70cm) are quiet a lot of the time anymore. 10 Years ago, you couldn't get a break in the chatter to talk to anyone. Things have changed, new methods are available too, which might be a reason for quiet times. (digital ham radio)
PM me if anyone wants to attempt 2 meters simplex or repeater. We'll setup a time and freq.
I went into Repeaterbook, and got all the listed repeaters within 100 mi of my house. I put that into my mobile, and everything 50 miles from my house on my BaoFengs.
Get CHiRP and RadioReference.. be happy.

On the Denver Radio Club website the Denver net list is a good start.

You may also want to include the Colorado connections and the CRA repeaters. Also, up here the BARC and LARC repeaters are often busy, as well as those with ARES affiliations.
