In looking around online, I have found a few different options for rechargeable CR123 batteries. I'm curious if anyone here has had luck with either a solar or cigarette-lighter (car) charger for that size battery?

I've tried to avoid any device that runs off of anything other than AA/AAA but a few items only come via CR123 power...:(

I have one charger that's a multi charger,plugs into the wall or the cigarette lighter in your car.It also charges different batteries as well.

Also mind you the voltages in the rechargeable cr123's is more than your standard battery.Found out the hard way when I loaded them in my Surefire light and blew the bulb :(

they also have less capacity than regular CR123a cells

Ditto. I have 2 chargers for AA and AAA rechargeable batteries that can feed off AC or 12V DC so I can feed them with my 19W solar panel through an intermediate power pack that can output 12V DC.

I use rechargeable CR123s and they work just fine, you just need to know their limitations. Don't use them in a weapon light

That's the ONLY thing I have that uses them.

Never again.

Batteries were fine (nothing great, but not garbage), but the charger was cheap junk.
1st one - would not charge and "hummed"
2nd one - would not turn on
3rd one - they would not send me a 3rd one, and refunded my money for the charger and batteries (after I complained that I can't use the batteries w/o a charger)

I pulled the chargers apart, and found cold solder joints, and some that had no solder/reflow on them..just a wire/IC leg in a hole, bouncing around.

I ended up just building a charger. (Couldn't fix the other two, as the charger control IC had shorted out

The batteries are fine. Hold a charge OK and recharge OK.
