I just bought the kid a Safariland drop leg holster for his b-day. Christmas is right around the corner and if I can I'd like to get him a decent belt to hang the pistol and maybe some mag pouches off of.
I don't think he'd be interested in a complete warbelt setup. I just saw a VTAC Cobra inner belt that looks nice, different than the old style web belts. Can you use the VTAC Cobra the same as a warbelt and hang a couple pistol mag tacos from it, is that a true statement? I don't know, I have no experience with this stuff.

I just did a very little research on this. If you have some better ideas please share. Maybe the boy would want to hang a couple AR-15 mag pouches off it also but I think that would be it. Not looking at additional harnesses or suspenders or anything. Just looking for a more modern alternative to the old WWI-II web pistol belt.

I use a Maxpedition Liger. Good gun belt, also a good dress belt.

The liger belts are great belts, and can be used for a day to day belt. As for using one of the more modern web belts similar to what makes up the internals of almost every warbelt setup out there, you can hang pretty much anything off of them if you have the belt clips. There are quite a few companies out there that make belt clips that are designed to thread through molle.

If you wanna hang a drop leg you are better off with a dedicated outer belt for gear and innner belt combo. Much like LEOs wear. check out http://www.jonestactical.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=3&Itemid=5 or you can go with a cheaper police style nylon option. You want the 2" width and rigidity when dealing with drop legs and and other tac gear.

This is what I wear daily. When I carry, it supports my full size 1911A1 on the right and a couple extra 8-round mags and full size Leatherman on the left.

You might look at http://www.tyrtactical.com/products/details/belts-lv/tyr-tactical-gunfighter-belt/ Pricey, but kind of a modern mix of old time web belt and more compact than a full blown war belt. Never tried it, but have looked at it a few times online [AR15]
