Hudak Recall: Fear and Intimidation in SD19 (http://www.notesfromacrazydad.com/2013/10/hudak-recall-fear-and-intimidation-in.html)

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-YKSPnK65t4k/Um_c7G06jCI/AAAAAAAAAEg/W7J4h871h3o/s640/recall_camera_guy.jpg (http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-YKSPnK65t4k/Um_c7G06jCI/AAAAAAAAAEg/W7J4h871h3o/s1600/recall_camera_guy.jpg)

I should start by saying that I don’t tolerate bullying very well. Especially when it is adults doing the bullying and they are attempting to bully other adults. That situation is exactly what I encountered on Sunday October 27th outside the Safeway at 80th and Wadsworth. My family and I stopped in to go grocery shopping when I heard a man yell “Smile for the camera.” When I looked I saw a man holding a camera with a very long lens and a “No to the Recall” sign. It seems that whenever a person would come to sign the petition he would take a picture and make sure that they knew it. This type of intimidation seems over the top. I understand and support the right of each side to protest and to do what they think is in the best interest of the public. Where I draw the line is the public intimidation. Are the anti-recall groups so worried about it succeeding that they are willing to cross that line. I would hope that the people of Arvada are better than this, but from the looks of it the supporters of Evie Hudak will do anything to save her job in the Senate.

Need to get a bunch of recall supporters out there to surround this idiot and start doing a Zoolander-esque pose-off.

So he is taking your picture. Legal act in public areas. Should thank him for documenting that there are real people signing the petitions.

He is only attempting to provoke a situation they can spin to their advantage. Even telling him he's #1 ends up a "look at the kind of people we're up against". Best thing you can possibly do is make your own (larger) "Sign the recall" sign and stand next to him. Beyond that, ignore him.

So handing out printed photos of the photographers, TO the photographers, taken through a scope lens (no rifle attached for picture) would not be advised? Perhaps to say, "Is that the best you've got when it comes to intimidation?"

Some activists hope for a confrontation . . . and they have an accomplice hiding in a nearby vehicle with a video camera.

Any more just "feeling threatened" is grounds for arrest. Sounds like people have good reason to have the picture taker visited by the police.

I would not be surprised if they were taking pics of plate numbers as well, then requesting names and addresses from DMV to post on their website.

And the cops would tell em to pound sand.
A lawyer might take their money knowing any case is a loss.
The media might find something to say but I'd love to see them complaining about sticking a camera in someones face...

Ask em where to get a copy of said pictures and thank them for documenting real people are signing the petitions.

Well I disagree. I can say countless times in my career...or in a week...someone will say, "I feel threatened." I explain to them why what they are feeling isn't a violation of statute just because they feel a certain way. The other person still has to specifically violate the law.

The Recall Hudak Too folks have posted up a picture on Facebook showing a Hudak supporter skulking around in an apparently rented car.

No idea if it's the same guy as in the original blog post, but either way, these actions on behalf of Hudak are exceedingly creepy.

I can't remember what the timeline is for them to resign; I think like 10 days after the petition is approved. If she believed strongly enough, she very well could give it to another dem to help prevent any of the new laws from being rolled back.

Great thread OP. Couple of thoughts...

1. I went to the original blog just to confirm, and the blogger is stating that he was there, WITH HIS FAMILY, to do grocery shopping when they were harrassed and photographed. That is actually a good thing. It means the Evil supporters are so stupid they are harrassing people that aren't even in that shopping center to sign the petition. Good! Maybe the folks on the fence will think harder about why these people want us disarmed given their behavior.

2. The Brown Shirts are getting personal--history tells us this is inevitable. Taking a photograph is a way of saying "I am documenting who you are and what you are doing for later use." We shouldn't be so quick to dismiss this behavior. If those are the new RoE, then we have lots of work to do. :)

With the ACA/Obamacare, Liberals have now drawn blood. It's no longer just political theatre. If they continue in their plans to decide who lives and who dies, we should be ready to communicate that there will be both collective and individual consequences.

This isn't "below the belt," it's actually the decent thing to do.

Honestly I'd chip in $50-100 toward a PI, just to dig through that photographer's life a little bit.

People like that always have some dirt they would prefer not go public. Say in big bold letters on a sign standing next to them.

Me too!

I can't find anything in the Statute about photographing (and maybe later publishing?) someone without their consent in a public place. I would be worried that people photoed would be put up somewhere on some website without permission and targeted because of their pro-2A stance. Seems shady, although not altogether illegal. I wouldn't like it, and would probably pursue civil matters if something came of it.

Unfortunately, it's in a public area. People do not need to give their consent to be photograhed in a public area, especially for something that may happen in the future (in this case, a possibility of being posted on a website in the future.)

It's not about a legitimate request for information, it's about intimidation (see my last post).

They don't care to know who signed after-the-fact. It's about intimidating people BEFORE they sign. They think these tactics work because that is what scares them; being identified and associated to their ideas (which are now killing people via Obamacare).
