Three weekends announced so far [flyer (http://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=5986.0;attach=6547 )], with additional dates through the summer to be added as ranges confirm open weekends.
March 28/29, 2009 (http://www.eventbrite.com/event/295192930)
April 18/19, 2009 (http://www.eventbrite.com/event/251539361) (Patriot's Day, anniversary of the Shot Heard Round the World (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shot_heard_round_the_world)!)
May 30/31, 2009 (http://www.eventbrite.com/event/251540364)
What is Appleseed? Appleseed is a project initiated by the Revolutionary War Veterans Association (http://www.appleseedinfo.org/our_statement.htm), a 501.c3 nonprofit, that describes the program this way:
Appleseed is a program that instructs Americans on the traditional rifle marksmanship skills that have been passed down from generation to generation, along with reconnecting today's Americans with the people and events of the Founding era. Participants are taught fundamental rifle marksmanship skills that are required to allow a Rifleman to be accurate out to 500 yards, with iron sights, standard rifle and surplus ammo. This is the traditional 'Rifleman's Quarter mile', which is an uniquely American Rifleman skill, that has been part of this nation from the very first days.Want to learn more about Appleseed (http://www.appleseedinfo.org/as_faq.htm) or what you need to bring (http://www.appleseedinfo.org/pdf/what_to_bring_shoot.pdf)? After you've looked at those two pages, get registered online for a shoot (http://www.appleseedinfo.org/as_schedule.htm). Heck get a buddy to register with you, too.
Don't have a rifle yet? (unlikely considering present company here, but just in case...) On a tight budget? Take a look at a discussion on affordable Ruger 10/22 Liberty Training Rifles (http://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?topic=32.0) or Marlin 795 Liberty Training Rifles (http://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?topic=4148.0).
Has anyone here done this?
I am thinking about taking my Son.
Do you have any feedback about the class you took?

I went to one last year and it was a blast. The history of the beginnings of the Revolutionary War was told extremely well and the rifle instruction was great, too. My shooting improved significantly - and Appleseed teaches to propertly shoot with a sling and iron sights... no bipod, no benchrest, just you and your rifle from standing, sitting, and prone.
Last year one gentleman brought his 9 year old son - who shot a Rifleman score by the end of the weekend. And another brought two of his daughters (11 and 13) - one scored Rifleman and the other was really darn close by the end of Sunday. Best part about kids is that under 21 shoots for free (likewise with women and active military)! Here's a link to last year's After Action Report (http://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?topic=2413).
I went with a couple buddies who had been shooting much longer than I had - one's still in the Reserves. All of us had a great time and came away learning something new. I highly recommend it.
Wife and I signed up for the one in May. Friends are going in April so we'll get the low down from them before we go. Looking forward to some longer range shooting.

Appleseed Schedule Update
The August 30/31, 2009 shoot sold out in record time, so a second August Appleseed’s been opened on August 8/9, 2009 (http://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?topic=7910). This Appleseed will be at Frontier Sportsman’s Club (http://www.frontiersportsman.com/) (in Fountain, CO). It’s only $70 (except women, under 21, and active military shoot FREE!) for 2 full days of instruction. Regardless of your skill level – from brand new novice to Rifleman – you’re guaranteed to learn something new.

I know a number of forum members made it to the sold out May shoot and we had a great time. Anyone who attended the last one want to chime in on your experience?
If you're interested in going to the next Appleseed, then head over and register online for the August 8/9 shoot (http://www.eventbrite.com/event/378356675%20%20) - hurry though, before this Appleseed also sells out! While you’re at it, get a friend to register and come with you, too.
I'd love to do the August 8th one, but that is the weekend after I start working again, so cash will be too tight :( Still had a great time at the May shoot, though!

Hey Ridge, was that the middle berm in May? Trying to figure out who the orange hats are...

That pic is Berm 6 at Ben Lomand Gun Club. I'm quite familiar with it [Tooth]. I was out there during the Appleseed shoot down on berm 1 taking a class from Ron Avery. There were at least a 100 shooters there for Appleseed with everything from 22's to bolt actions to AR's, and I think I even saw a few M-1's but didn't look that close.
Lots of kids and ladies shooting too. I like to see that. Anyone can convince a guy to go shooting, but getting the kids and women to go can take some convincing. The more of those two groups shooting the better IMO.

The middle bay was berm 5. The three bays used were berms 2, 5, and 6. Berm 2 is the furthest east of the three.

Thanks SA Friday. I couldn't remember the numbering at Ben Lomand. [NoClue] Ridge's pic must have been from late Sunday afternoon. I was working the west berm the whole weekend, but had to bug out to the airport Sunday afternoon shortly after we consolidated rimfires from the other berms and let the centerfires head over to the 600yd range for some long distance fun. I didn't recognize all the shooters on the line in the pic - since many came over from berms 2 and 5.
And you're right, we had quite the variety out there. Shooters brought bolt 22s, bolt 223s, 10/22s, Marlin 795s, ARs, M1As, M1 carbines, Garands, SKSs, a FAL... you name it and someone was likely shooting it!
Yeah that pic was from Sunday afternoon. Here is a pic from Sunday morning showing the wide variety of weapony viewable that weekend :)

ETA: I think that is Dad laying down next to me watching my breathing...
I spent the weekend southeast of Fountain with the Appleseed group, had a great time and learned more than I could retain. This was the first 'training' I have had and it was great. By the second day I could consitently score between 193 and 200 on the AQT.
The only downside is the sore body and the 500 less rounds I have for zombies, but then I will not need as many now.
I highly recomend to all!

Glad to hear you enjoyed it esaabye! I heard there were half a dozen new Riflemen who scored over 210 on the AQT and quite a few who were knocking on the door in the low 200s?
Regarding the ammo, you've got the right idea. As Boston says, "I'd rather have 500 rounds of ammo and 500 rounds of experience than 1000 rounds of ammo and 0 rounds of experience!"
Even though the August 29/30 shoot in Ramah is already sold out, anyone looking to attend an Appleseed and learn the skills to shoot 20" groups at 500 yards with iron sights (and hear some fantastic stories of your country's beginnings from the start of the Revolutionary War), can sign up for one of the open spots available for the kickoff Appleseed out in Gunnison that same weekend (http://www.peoplespresscollective.org/2009/08/appleseed-project-coming-to-gunnison/).
