I have seen a shop or two still selling "hi-cap" mags in the front range. Are they ignoring the law or????

I checked with a place that still has them for sale. They said that they are only selling to LEO's and out of state. They are not for sale to the general public, even though they are out for display. May be the case for other shops, YMMV...

The store I visited had them for sale to the general public as magazine parts kits. I thanked them for doing this.

So if you are an illegal alien you can get in state tuition for your kids and they can buy the standard 30 round magazines and vote without id? God what a state.

Been a while since I read it. I didn't remember LEO being exempt?

Are you sure those aren't just used up? Genius Degette talked about how the magazines would be useless once they were used up (her spokeswoman even clarified this point); maybe these are also useless garbage because they're out of ammo?

I do not have my copy handy at the moment, its on the other computer in my office. I'll double check my recollection and post the exact citation in this thread later.

I will point out that I have read the law.

I hope we take old Colorado back. A guy knocked on my door today (after I think he looked into my mailbox to check the names on the mail) and wanted to talk to me about Amendment 66. I told him before he tried to befriend me anymore that I know that its a huge tax to pay union teachers and if my guns aren't protected by the current administration critters I don't trust them with my money either. He walked away. I should have called the cops. And I still don't know if he was for it or against it.

I stopped to look around at OD Green and they had a bunch of +15 mags. They said they sell all the parts in a bag as a rebuild kit. I didn't buy any because I'm saving up for one of their $700 unconverted Saigas. [LOL]

I saw some 30 round mags at a smaller shop yesterday. I asked about them and they said that they were selling them straight away. Good for them, I hope they don't get any hassle for it...

One of their former employee's (read pretty girl) said that they really only care about bulk ammo deals and the small buyer's can pay what they ask or go away. I don't see them hanging around very long.
Unless they pull it together.

Wow, not what I would call a ringing endorsement...

Well, I figured the Yelp reviews are a bad sign. Sure, some people have a sense of entitlement and will bitch no matter what. Being in business for myself, I also know that if a business is somewhat reasonable, *most* people will not complain. If that many people are consistently giving bad reviews, it could be that the business had done something to earn them...

OD greens ammo is over priced and they don't try to hide it, they even include that fact in their radio advertisements on KOA and Khow (or at least they used to). Their thinking is to sell in bulk when the other stores have 2 box limits and save the customer from driving all over town buying small amounts. However, many stores are lifting that 2 box limit so I would assume if they plan on staying in business they will have to become more competitive.
They also sell Tapco 30rd mags with the springs sold separately. I guess that must be a loophole in the new laws. They told me they had their attorneys approval to sell them like that and as far as I know they have not been legally challenged. Personally, I drive a couple blocks away from them to do my business with 5280 Armory, which also sells bulk at lower, not a lot, but lower prices than OD Greens.

spqrzilla
11-04-2013, 13:31
WyoKidd, if they claim that "their" lawyers approve selling the magazines without a spring, then in my opinion "their" lawyers either don't exist or got their law degree from a box of Cracker Jacks.

There is no such loophole.

spqrzilla, I agree. Amazing they would risk their license on something they surely are not making a lot of money on...But that is what they told me and the last time I went in there, a couple weeks ago, they were still selling them right off the shelf. One box full of Tapco 30rd mags and one box full of Tapco springs. I have seen law enforcement in there on more than one occasion. Go figure.

Just to make sure I was making an accurate statement I decided to stop in there tonight on my way home tonight, 11-4-2013, and sure enough, they have plenty of Tapco 30rd 5.56/223 mags with a separate purchase for the spring. They also had a dozen or so 30rd Pmags with separate springs for them. Sorry I didnt take notice of the price. I did notice that their 5.56 ammo was roughly .50 per rd regardless of bulk package with an ammo can thrown in. So yea, they are pricey but have good supply.

The law is stupid ... and it won't likely last long.

But that said I will not state a position here on this forum on whether or not I will obey these stupid new laws because this is an open forum and there are antis here and I don't want to give ammo to the enemy nor open the management of this site to any trouble.

But I will make the observation that there's a lot of people ignoring the law (including law enforcement) ... for now.

But I will make the observation that there's a lot of people ignoring the law (including law enforcement) ... for now.

Exactly.

I've taken a bunch of crap from people who claim that I'm some sort of sellout for telling people not to violate the law.
As if I give a crap about this law, or as if I'm somehow in league "with da man".

If you want to violate the law by buying banned magazines, and you make a rational, informed decision, that's not going to upset me. But if you think because some gun shop does some stupid clown thing, that that means that the law is somehow been erased, you are wrong.

Because a shop selling >15 round magazines will get away with it until some TV news crew does an "expose" on it. Then - when they turn over their list of customers who bought magazines from them in a plea deal - things will be different.

So I'm telling my friends to stay away from shops run by clowns.
