I recently went to an FFL to purchase my first handgun. He told me there would be a Hour and half wait........ So I get a call a bit later and he tells me the check has been "Delayed" and it will be a mandatory 3 days?
What Gives? Does anyone know why they do this? I bought a 22 rifle from Wall mart about a month ago and the background check came back in about 45 min as being clear.
I have never had any run-in's with the law that would prevent me from owning a firearm, much less any at all for over 5 years(even then it was out of state) I have however had speeding tickets and such (1 pending), but again, nothing serious.
Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Nevermind, I just received a call about 10 minutes after posting. He told me I can come pick up.

LOL I'm not really worried about it. I just blame it on the ignorance of youth.

The Delayed response just means that the agency could not look up a record on you, maybe a system is down or having problem. Once they are able to check the record they will then finish the processing. If however, they cannot get the information after 3 business days they the FFL can proceed to transfer the gun to you. EX: you start the background check on Friday the delayed comes back Friday night, they are not able to check the record which delayed it for 3 days then the FFL can transfer the gun to you on Thursday.
I have litterally bought hundreds of weapons since the bs instacheck system went online, and a few months back they delayed me, i was pissed. I left the shop and before I got home they called, and said i was approved. I think they do it to screw with people. the same thing happend to my buddy and 30 min. later it was approved. the way I looked at it if they decline me now after all the approvals, they have some hefty explaining to do... or I do.[Tooth]
I've been delayed twice in the last year.[Dunno]

So far (knock on wood), the only delays I've experienced have been due to backlogs in the CBI check system. Several times I've initiated a check one day and gone back the next to complete the sale and pick up the firearm.
