Anyone been to the Tanner gun show before? What did you think? How was the selection/prices? One is coming up next weekend and i was wondering if i might have any luck finding a decently priced AR-15 there.
I've not been to the Tanner show since the election...
But in the past, show prices have typically been high. In all the years I've been going, I've never seen a great price on any complete firearm...
Your better off heading to Sportsman's Warehouse or Gander Mountain if you aren't too particular about the brand as Sportsman's carries Bushmaster and have seen Armalite....
Now on the "pro" side of the gunshow... If you are looking for something in particular, type or brand you'll most likely find it there....
But don't go expecting to find a "steal"...

Tanner: Busy usually anymore, almost standing room only, slow to walk through due to crowds. Prices: reasonable to high on most things. Decently priced? depends on what you're wanting to spend...

jeez, I thought we normally get told that we have good prices at the show and good selection.

Typically on most NEW firearms the prices are about 10-20 percent or much higher than what you would pay on Gunbroker. For example there was a guy(he typically sets up right by the bathrooms as you come in) that had Bushmaster carbines the last couple shows for 1600 dollars. He also had the basic PTR rifle for 2000 dollars. Pistols such as the XDM, Glocks and Sigs were over priced as well when compared to the auction prices. Sometimes the difference in price was over a $100.00 or more.
Of course theses people are feeding on the recent panic buying frenzy. I suspect the panic buying prices will be higher at this show with the recent announcments on a possible renewal of assualt weapons ban and now the rumors that the Govt will stop the sale of surplus brass to the cilvilian market which will completeily create more shortages of ammo in 9mm, 5.56, 50BMG and 7.61.
I will go to the Tanner just for the heck of it. Sometimes if you look hard you find something very special. However I most likely will end up stopping by the 5280 armory and Green Mountain Guns afterwards looking for something better and more appropriately priced.

Good selection yes, prices are questionable. Don't know about your specific goods or pricing, just commenting in "general". One vendor seems to have good supply of reloading components at normal pricing. I plan to attend tanner and purchase some items, which I probably should have bought this weekend @ arapahoe.

What about for C&R items like Mosin Nagants and SKS? Still overpriced?
I'm new to the area - where is the Tanner show?
edit: and is it any relation to the Tannery Shop?

I don't normally shop for those older units and already own an SKS, so I cannot verify prices on those items.
Tanner Gun Show is held at the Denver Merchandise Mart - I-25 and 58th Ave. Google it and you can find the dates/directions.

yea overpriced on some stuff but component materials are still reasonable for reload
There were a few deals to be had...I picked up a Lancer L5 for $19.99...a few GSG-5 mags, which were a bit overpriced, but I was looking for them in a bad way...
It was pretty packed until around 3pm I noticed the place was pretty emptied...a few dealers were even packing up already...one guy offered to trade me my Sigma to go towards a very nice M1A he had for sale...damn I was tempted, but had wanted a pistol for a while, and would have a hard time explaining to the family why I have YET another rifle :p
First time at a gun show...
Ammo - WAAAY overpriced
Did see lot's of cool black rifle stuff!
Met the Appleseeds people & a few forum members
Got lot's of spare 1911 parts.
Even got 2 30rd PMAGs for $30.
I would go again.

i'm heading down this morning to help MGT out. Maybe i might actuall get a chance to walk around.
Overpriced, too many people, only go in to see Dad but I can see him at his store and save the 7 bucks.
I was thinking of going today.. I just like to see whats out there...
I've not been since the election. Is there a "wait" to get in? Is it like wall-to-wall packed?
Are the prices higher than "pre-election" prices?
TIA

Went Saturday, busiest ive ever seen it. Had to drive a while to find a parking spot. Line snaked around the corner a good ways but the line moved fast...if you had correct change you could go in another line and it really moved fast. Lots of over priced stuff but some good deals as well...cheapest ak prices ive seen in a while...saw several for 650.00 Saw a table full of Pmags for 20 to 30 bucks each...bought several for 20. Also saw the Applesead guys...mentioned this place and the guy told me his coar15 name but ill be damn if I can remember it now. Sorry, im bad with names. Was better then I expected with the crowd so big....Gonna go back and look for a couple of semi .22s for my boys for the appleseed shoot.
No wait to get in.
YES prices are higher than preelection prices on some things. No big news there as manufacturers and distributors have raised prices ot dealers.
I do know for a fact taht MGTS is still using the exact same margins as we were before elections. Prices may be higher but our low mark up is still teh same.

Lots of items for show again. they were overpriced so apparently they were showing them and not selling them. I bought a few ammo cans and bought 500 rounds of 7.62x39. I did not like how they were announcing the names over the intercom when background check was complete.

They were in the middle against the wall...across the aisle from CO Gun Sales. They have an FN M249 on the table.

Is there any sign of some sort? Sorry I am new to co-ar15 community [Beer]
What, seeing an M249 isnt enough of a sign? :D
But yeah, you go in the front door, straight down that front aisle, past the bathrooms on the wall, hang a left around the corner, turn right at the end of the table and they are up against that wall about 2-3 aisles to the back...

I didnt feel like going through all the aisles yesterday. Bought a couple 5rd mags, bolt assembly, and off I went. And today, I have 2pm appointment that might last long enough that I wont be able to stop by again. darn it.

Come by my Booth next time all my new guns are priced to sell. I will be at the Tanner gun show in April 25-26. Look for J & J Enterprises.
I will have Springfields, Glocks, Mossbergs - Home Defense shotguns, FNP, Beretta, Kahr, and many other manufactures. Also, buy a gun from me at the show and you will be automatically entered into a drawing to win a Remington 12ga OU shotgun -- drawing will be on Sunday Afternoon

jj - do you typically have Springfield XD-9 magazines available when you're at this show? The reason I'm asking is that I could use about 6 of these and I don't want to waste a trip from the Springs and not find any mags (at least, not any at decent prices).

I can get them if you like just let me know and I will have them ready for you. they run about 25.00 for the 16 RD xd 9's
tons of people there. pretty good show though. my buddy sold is .40 S&W tactical and got himself a new XD9 M
we went out and shot it and WOW! great gun.
lots of cool stuff but most was grossly overpriced as always.
I asked a couple of the tables why they even set up a table at a gun show....the tables that didn't have any guns. like the ones selling jewelry or dolls.[Bang]
hopefully they never sell anything there and will soon realize they aren't wanted.
Even if nobody wants what they are selling, they are still giving money to the Tanner that keep it running, which we need to remind ourselves of...so what if we dont want authentic knockoff indian jewelry, or elk jerky, or a polishing cloth...it is their money that still gives us a place to go and buy/sell/trade our wares...

I look at the non firearms vendors as being needed in a way... we need to keep as many people as possible interested in firearms, and these vendors help with this. If they didn't mind being at a "gun show" they must have some interest in them. If it also prompts some other people to attend and look around, for non gun related items, it still brings them to the show and see that the gun world isn't such a bad thing. They might even decide to look at some items or get the feelings to try shooting sometime...
I've been trying to get a female co-worker to attend one of the shows, as she is interested in getting something for home protection, and she was a few feet from the door this weekend and didn't enter the gunshow. Something turned her away and I don't know what it was. (I even gave her a coupon for the $1 off) I would have met her there, but couldn't due to other obligations at the time she wanted to browse...
I just think of it this way, if I take my daughter to the show, and she sees something "pretty" she likes, and I purchase it for her, the next time I mention gun show, she's interested... if for the guns or not. But she did get to be in the environment, around all these dangerous weapons and survived... ha... positive energy.
If the gun show turns out to be more than 15% non-firearm related items, I'll probably get turned off... but I'm turned off now anyway with the outrageous prices people are gouging for...
m2cents...

I agree completely. I brought my 9 year old with me. We even turned it into a daddy-daughter day. She ended up with a peny necklace and I got a few mag pouches and a Brownell 20 round mag. I even took her to lunch, so we had a great day and she already wants to go to the next gun show.
We either get the next generation excited about our sport or our sport dies.

Buying anything on the Internet is usually 10-20% cheaper than picking it up locally. Of course, you're not factoring in delivery charges, the overhead incurred by actually having a store, etc.
I went to the Tanner gun show for my first time last month. I didnt find any good deals on guns or ammo. The prices were relatively high. I did however get a couple p-mags for my ar at a reasonable price. As far as the crowds, I went at 9:00 am on Sunday. The crowds were very light until about 11 or so. I saw every table and only had to wait a few minutes towards the end. Its worth going if u havnt gone. Hope this helps..

Took a friend from Kalifornia there who had never been to a gun show before, his comment was:
"It gives me hope that there is still some sort of freedom in this country"
lets hope it lasts

What are the chances of buying a couple 5K boxes of WSR primers at the upcoming show(s)? Are the shelves bare there also?

They have some, but.. they are going for $40-50/1k at the last show. You probably can get it for $20-30 at cabela's etc. :(

There are deals to be had at the tanner, but you really gotta do some searching. I haven't been there since late in 2008, but when I was there I did find some good deals on mags.
I'd pass unless you are going to bring something to barter with. thats really the only way you can beat high prices.

I heard on the radio that the Colorado Gun Collectors show was going on this weekend at the MerchMart. Last one I went to, I was short about $80K for what I wanted: maybe the price of that pre-ban Gatling in 45-70 dropped a little.
