I just aquired this rifle tonight in a 30.06. The mechanics of the rifle are very good. The barrel has a few scratches and some wear at the end and around the bolt. Someone has actually carved thier name into the stock and actually whittled some of the wood right under the barrel at the very end. It's a very nice looking rifle besides of the stupid stuff someone did. Does anyone know much about these? Were they actually used in combat? Which war? What should I do with it? Have someone restore it? Any help would be appreciated.
Serial number is 6928xx.
Thanks Bryan

There is a lot of info on the m1903 out there on the web, and if my info is right it was adopted for service in June 1903 and saw service in WWI, WWII, and some limited time in Korea, and Vietnam. I would look into trying to find a replacement stock and restore what sounds like a fine weapon and piece of history. Let us know how it shoot. PS try some long distance shooting, it seems it was used as a sniper rifle for a time.

I picked one up a few years ago and it was missing a few parts. You can get just about anything you may need at numrich.com for it. I needed some small parts, wood forend, sling etc. and they had all of it.Mine's a Smith Corona 1903A3. Good Luck.
