View Full Version : Cabelas - Thornton
I know, kinda weird to post a review for a big chain, but I just had to...
I bought a "premium" level shotgun from Cabelas last week, for my Pheasant hunt in South Dakota. Two days later, when I was away on my trip they offered $100 of on the gun. I went back in this week and politely asked if they could honor it for me, and they did! I bought 2 days before the promo started, and couldn't go ask until 2 days after the promo ended, due to my trip. They issued me a gift card for the difference, which was quite nice. Always stings when something you buy goes on sale right after, and they took care of me happily. I should also mention that they were anywhere from $100-$150 cheaper than 4 of the 5 shops I checked around at for the same shotgun (the 5th shop had it for the same price).
Great to still see some big chains treating customers like they are a small neighborhood shop. Thanks.

I have had good luck there as well. I scored an awesome drag bag for 40.00 out of the bargain cave and a set of Loupy rings that were missing a screw for 15.00.
I dig the place.

Went today, they had some Rio buckshot for 2.79 and they had some .30 carbine ammo too for an ok price. Not a bad store, If I need something in a pinch and don't want to truck down to Sportsman's. Gun prices were high though.

Quality and service. What a great combination. In my opinion Cabelas rocks.
This is most likely why they are probably expanding as they are now.
They are friendly as well (at least the Thornton one I went to).

Scored some great Vortex binoculars (10x) for $94....they're usually $150 anywhere else!

Not to derail but primary arms has done the same thing for me in the past. It's the little things like that, that bring customers back.

Between Christmas and birthday I got a bunch of gift certificates burning a hole in my pocket. I'd not been to the Thornton location so the wife and I met our son and daughter-in-law there. Bought a Glock 21SF ($599) and a Sig 2022 in .40 ($449).
Very pleasant experience with friendly, helpful staff. I particulary liked that they give you a pager and page you when the BGC was complete leaving you free to wander the store or sit in the deli. The BGC only took 20 minutes or so.
I probably could have found better deals somewhere else but would not have been able to use the gift certs. They also had lots of ammo including a large selection of .223 (no .22 lr)
OOOPS! meant to post this in "Dealer and Range reviews"

Ordered some magazines from their online store and did the ship to store. I bought 12 round magazines but I got 12+2 magazines, ones with a little extension on the bottom the kind I didn't want. I didn't notice till i got home, so i called their main customer service department and they said I could just return it in store. I went back that same day and they refused to return them because they were a restricted item because "they are illegal to own in Colorado". I asked them to explain and they said anything with more than 10 rounds is illegal in CO. I said no that's straight up not correct. They still refused because they are in the computer as restricted and no way around that. They said i had to ship them back at my own costs because they wouldn't provide me a return label.
So i got the wrong product, i would have to pay for the costs to ship them back, and the kicker, they were selling the exact same magazines in store that i wrongly received. I told them that they currently have these same magazines on their shelf in their store, but according to their computer they are illegal to own, so why would they sell them, and why could i not return them.
After a long ordeal they called the main customer service department and the store agreed to ship them back themselves so they could be returned.
I wrote Cabelas an email, the general manager of the Thornton store called me as well as the store's customer service manager. The CS manager ended up just returning the product in store the next day before they shipped them out. They never apologized or admitted they made a mistake or that their computer was wrong or the fact that the product i wanted to return was on their shelf for others to buy, but i couldn't return it.
Every other time I go there I have an issue with their service. Total waste of time to go there.
I just bought another safe and this time went with Cabela's (this is at the Lone Pine) . When I went in on Memorial Day they had the 30 gun Liberty's for $1079 but a second tag above the safe was $1049. They also had little cards at all of their checkout counters that stated Veterans got an employee discount of up to 25% off all purchases. When I asked about discounts, the guy selling me the safe pointed to a business card and stated they had no other discounts. I asked about the checkout counter cards, he said he had never noticed them and called a manager. The manager came over and he had obviously not seen it either. He read it... "Give it to him. Does this make a happy customer... Then we are good here". End story I got the $1049 price, 25% off and with points from previous buys ended up with a brand new safe for just over $600. The service was great and what I would hope for from any shop. I have also gone in and found things like H50BMG powder for $15. I am good with Cabela's at this point.
PS: When I went in to pick up the safe, all of those checkout counter cards were gone but they did honor them while they were out.
