View Full Version : Packages gone from porch - Any Options

So I had two deliveries today one from UPS and one from FedEx. Both companies say they were left on my porch behind the bench/chair. I always check my porch as I drive past in the afternoon to see if there are any packages and did not see any. I knew the FedEx one should be here today, I checked and it showed delivered. Then I checked the other one and it showed delivered as well. FedEx said the driver specifically put it behind the bench as neighbors were outside. Checked the dumpsters in the area (new home construction) and didn't find anything, checked Craigslist and nothing. This was about $500 worth of stuff. What options do I have, if any?

open a complain right away with UPS And Fedex, police report too.
You did not sign for it, nor receive it. Call your credit card company and cancel the charges...after you make sure your wife did not pick them up and toss them in the gun room...ask me how I know...
That's suck, I'm sorry that happened! No advice to recommend, just hope it works out for you in the end!!
Mail it to your work next time.

Check your surveillance cameras...
I hate when this crap happens!
Check with neighbors also, I've had packages delivered to my neighbors on accident. If after 2 days it doesn't show up file a claim and call the CC/bank. Get cameras or a game cam to catch these assholes thieves

Yeah, to all - Ordering a Dropcam or something similar to put on my porch.
Sounds like one vendor will work with me on it. The other I am not sure on yet. As far as shipping to my work, not an option, I actually thought of that but the stuff I ordered is not allowed in my building (school) and I did not know what the packaging would say.
I hate thieves!
box you can leave on porch or side of house that locks when closed?

Had a reaction Rod delivered and was left with apt manager. Manager claims never to receive. It was through SlizeBay, filed a claim, Slizy says no dice because vendor shows delivered.
That was my experience so I know how you feel.
Live and learn I guess,
Roger
As people said above. It really makes me frustrated when the package was label "delivered" and is not there.
As people said, FedEx/UPS has a claim service.
FedEx is easier and faster in that area than UPS.
FedEx Ground usually have upto 100, and 500 for express even without sender purchasing the insurance.
Even with FedEx, it usually takes about 1-2 weeks for you to receive a check.
They tend to send the claim to sender as well, so you might need to talk with seller about claim.

If you get stuff on a regular basis you can call UPS and give them your garage door opener code. Driver will use code and leave in garage. I do it every day.

In new construction areas it is very common for deliveries to get stolen. The workers see you leave, not get back home and see a package on your porch. They take it.
I do a lot of work in new development areas and hear about this crap every week. Easy pickins for the hundreds of "workers" that are driving by and walking by every day.
Sorry you had to be one of the people these scum steal from. One of my customers had their entire patio furniture set stolen last week. Expensive shit. And a patio heater.
Contact the shipper. That's how you start a claim.
Having spent too many years at UPS the claims are investigated. I've seen it all. I've had to help chase down some interesting things.
I remember a case where a high school kid was stealing packages off porches on his way home... Didn't end up so well for him, as all home owners pressed charges.
With ups insurance is free up to 100 value. Not sure on fedex. I always ship to my office. Never worry about the appearance of the pkg. most shippers use plain packaging. Amazon labels boxes but their claim service is awesome in my own personal experience.
It doesn't matter what you do to try and save what you order. I've seen boxes ripped open in transit and delivered. Taken off of porches and even known a few instances of whole UPS trucks being taken. A determined thief will get what they want. Shipping to a home, that no one is at is always risky.
You can contact UPS and set your address to signature only. You can have them held at the facility, you can have them dropped at ups store. Online both fedex and ups have some great options for notification of packages and such.

For love of all that is holy, DO NOT file dispute on your credit card. The vendor did nothing wrong. And likely you'll lose the dispute anyway, after pissing off the company who has to file the claim with the shipping company. You cannot file the claim, its done by the shipper only. Contact the vendor/shipper, and go from there, you should get compensated one way or another, fedex and UPS are both real good about this kind of thing.

For heavens sake, don't order it to be delivered to anything but your USPS mailbox. The irony of having the camera you ordered to monitor your deliveries stolen would be too much for me.

I have always thought it is best to contact the vendor and let them handle it with the shipper.

Just a month ago I had ups say the package was delivered. 24 hours later the ups driver drops off the package. Give it a day.
Get a box at a The UPS Store or one of the private companies. They will be there to sign for it and make sure it's there for you. Plus, you can use that address for about everything, expect your CCW and Voting. It will increase your privacy. If you car is broken into and your insurance papers and keys taken, the address will be your UPS box.
Sorry, had to do it...

I live in a new (under construction) neighborhood and there have been several reports around the neighborhood of things disappearing off porches after delivery, but not always near the construction. The neighborhood has over 1000 homes and all the construction is in one area, but the thefts are taking place all over the neighborhood. As much as I would like to attribute it to the construction workers (I've seen some mighty shady things in the 8 months that I've been living here!), it could just as easily be a dirtbag neighbor or a kid who's parents didn't instill good principles in them.

Obviously you have a poor credit card company or have no idea how this works. The vendor won't lose the money from a non-delivered package. You can open a claim, which will be kept open, and the CC company has more muscle to rattle the cages. When the merchant proves to the CC company that the package was shipped, then they go to the shipper and will usually get resolution much faster because they know the game better. As a merchant who ships a lot of stuff, that is the best way to proceed and what I would do as a consumer as well.

So it happened to me once. The driver will come back and you will have to sign a sheet that say you never received your goods. Then they send that to the company and the two(Oakley and UPS in my example) end up eating the cost. Shitty part is, it took Oakley about 2 months to credit my bank account, so I hope you aren't in a rush.

No advise on the missing items, but I do have a drop cam and I love it. It has the great feature to alert you the minute it detects movement so it's awesome to watch stuff like this. Their CVR is also great and highlights anytime there is movement so you don't have to spend hours going through footage. For the $200 up front and the $10 a month it's been a good investment for me.
If you get stuff on a regular basis you can call UPS and give them your garage door opener code. Driver will use code and leave in garage. I do it every day.
And then who's responsible when they leave the garage open? I've got $70k in vehicles and probably $20k in tools in my garage, I'm not giving some delivery boy my code.

Thanks guys, just the sort of thing I needed to see the day before my Xbox One is supposed to get here :P lol
(That's why I'm working from home that day though :) )

+10, and cheaper than drop cam. What good is the drop cam if you can't find the person to arrest.

Fedex will leave my stuff around back sometimes, instead of on the porch or behind the bushes. Most of my stuff gets ordered from Amazon, though, so if it gets stolen from the porch, I get a no-questions-asked refund or identical item shipped immediately when I report it.

Not sure if it was the construction workers. We have had construction going on for all 6 years we have lived here and this is the first instance of something getting swiped. We do have a few shifty neighbors and kids that I do not like. Amazon is replacing and refunding everything that I ordered. Still not sure on the other vendor yet. Amazon has been great through this.
Dropcam is something I have wanted for a while. I can put inside my house and have it point out the window to the front porch. It is not just for this type of stuff, but general security as well.
Once again thanks all.

Had a package from Natchez scheduled for delivery today, and wife says FedEx pulled up the driveway and then leaves.
Tracking said it was left on front porch. She goes out to make sure, no package and no foot prints anywhere in the snow.
I had her call FedEx and open a case. I've had FedEx show up and the package wasn't on the truck for some reason, but it sure as hell didn't say left on porch in the tracking notes.

I can't help you "fix" this issue.
I CAN help you prevent it w/o any expenses.
I have been able to ask FEDEX and UPS to "HOLD FOR PICKUP".
Some items can be held at local "Stations" ; other types of items have to be held at the "MAIN DEPOT/WAREHOUSE".
Yes, I have to wait until I can find time to pick it up, but it IS THERE.
Quite convenient when it is at a local "station" ; just show an ID and leave .
Never had any extra charges, either.
Sometimes you can "log on" to their website and select where to have it "HELD".
Easy as pie ...
